Why would you walk into a situation where you are instantly upside down $3000, and 72 months worth of payments? It will take you roughly 5 to 6 months just to pay back what you are upside down in the Tacoma. Add instant depreciation to the Dodge, add another 6 months to get out of your original note on the Tacoma, then you have 67 more payments on the dodge...talk about a microorgaism of what is wrong with this whole screwed up economy...you wil never even be close to even on that Dodge, and in 2 years when you get sick of the Dodge you will be about 10,000 upside down. Now you really got a problem and 4 more years of payment.

All very good points and I appreciate them all. I have since called the Dodge place and told them I'm sticking with the Tacoma. This board has cost me plenty due to mod ideas, but for once it has saved me money :)

    Too few to list.
Just something to consider, my sister bought brand new in 2001 the QuadCab with the 5.9L. At 26K miles, front brakes were gone and bad front bearings which are permanently attached to the hubs. At 33K, the ECU starts to act up and develops hesitation. At 48K miles, the cats were toast and clogged up. At 76K, the water pump goes out. The truck currently has 80K miles. Also the interior is not well built. Various plastic pieces fell out, crack dash, etc.

I'm not trying to change your mind but when I checked for recalls for her 2001 truck, about 11 came up and when I checked for recalls for my 1995 4runner, 2 came up.

btw, she now drives a 2009 Tacoma. We've had 3 other toyota's before our tacomas. 1979 Corolla that lasted forever, it was later sold. 1995 4runner that didn't see any problems until 160K and 1991 pick up that didn't see any problems until 190K.

The only thing dodge is good for is the cummins diesel engine,,,, other then that they are a POS. Thats why the do 0% for 72 months ,they are having a hard time giving them away. Stick with Toyota or Chevy....

i'm surprised you would come onto a toyota site and ask if you should trade in your toyota for something else. you will obviously get a resounding "no!" from everyone. now if it was a ford, it would at least make sense. but dodge makes the worst vehicles on the road. everything they make is shit, excpet their diesels, and those are not made by dodge. will you have it fully paid off in 72 months? if not, then you will have to start paying interest and once you do that it will be MORE than your tacoma, then factor in the repair bills and lower resale value and you have lost a shit ton of money. also, you need to find out how the accrued interest works. i have no idea how it works with cars but when i got my old computer, i had zero interest for 6 months. after that, the interest was something like 27%. no big deal cause i paid it off in two payments but you need to look into it

If you like the idea and the truck go for it. It is your money. Would I do it, no. But I have a Gmc Diesel, one of those terrible terrible trucks that asked for a bail-out. Consider almost everything everyone said and them do what you want. You only go arround once.

I had a Dodge once. Granted I bought it used, but it was only two years old. In the first 180 days (6 months) of ownership, it was in the shop 60 days for various problems (thank god for the warranty). After that I decided to sell the pos. I had it advertised for a year, and nobody wanted it even though I had it priced at below wholesale. I finally ended up practically giving it to a local used car dealer. I think in the end I lost $10k on it, and only drove it for 4 months out of the 1.5 years I had it.

we got a 94 ram that is now a farm truck...its got over 200k and the damn thing won't die. its pulled horse trailers, tobacco trailers and tractors all its life. Base model truck, 5.2v8 manual tranny, ac is the only option. Dodge quality is hit and miss, we also had a caravan that we sold with 140k on it and it was never in the shop. Only thing with a dodge, if you buy on plan on keeping it because you'll be buried in negative equity.

Well if you want to legally be able to haul 3000 lbs and tow > 12,000 lbs and still get > 20 mpg buy a used pre 2006 Dodge Diesel. The axles, suspension, transmission, and everything else are so solid that if you only occaisionally work the thing out the stoutness will somewhat make up for the poor quality control.

I had a 2004 Diesel Laramie, it was a nice ride and I miss it. Yes it did cost an average of $1,800 / year to keep on the road, but it would also tow a big 5th wheel, had lots of room, and the Cummins engine was fantastic. Other things like dual batteries are nice in the event you use it for camping, and there was a fold down workbench in the back seat, adjustable pedals, steering wheel controls, home link etc. Having bought it used I didn't suffer much depreciation on it. Dodges are tops for riding position, and cool looks too in my opinion.

Drove by a Dodge Dealership today and the employee parking lot was filled with mostly foreign cars a majority were camrys and nissans. A couple chargers and a challenger... The ones selling the Mopar CRAP to you swear by the reliability just not enough to buy one themselves.

And one of my coleagues drives a Ram for work. Damn thing left him stranded 300 miles from home 3 times. It has less than 60k on the odo
