I guess with you wanting room for 6 people at times,a minivan is what you need, and they have rear a/c.

Stick with what you have. Your kids will be fine sitting in the backseat with no A/C vents at their disposal. Your children are 4 and 1, they aren't going to outgrow that truck for at least 10 years. Get some dark tint and Save your money!!

Side note / PSA: if it's hot and you have passengers in your rear seats, direct all 4 front vents past you and towards them. Outside vents go up and out over your outside shoulder, centers blow in between driver & passenger seats. That will cool the front and back somewhat evenly.

If the vents are blowing directly on you you're doing the back seat a huge disservice.

True. We did look at Sienna buy my husband won't go for it. He said it's a mom's car and the look emasculates him.. lol Highlander or 4runner (if budget is not an issue).. we just need to decide whether we should trade our tacoma or keep it for the next 4 & 1/2 yrs

Thanks! I think we'll just do this. Will check out some dark tint. Need to find a really good shop to do this. We'd hate to see bubbles on the windows.

Sell it outright, buy a used Camry, Accord, RAV4 or Highlander. Something in the same year range or a bit older would help.

Finance via CU, not a dealer

Buy via an individual if possible.

Not all tint is created equal.. ceramic tint will help with heat more than regular tint. But will be more costly.

Keep what you have, tint the windows if they are not tinted now. You will be glad you did.

I had to do this back in 1984, I had a wife and two small kids, a 2 door Ford Escort and a std cab Chevy S10 which I really liked. The S10 was worth more so I traded it for a mini van. It was the right thing to do at the time I guess. I didn't get a pickup back under me until 2013. I still think about that S10.

    Beautifully stated...
Here is my ‘old man rant‘ because I’m getting up in years (58): Kids have it made these days. We grew up in hot, humid Missouri without air conditioning in our cars and homes etc...and we survived just fine.

There aren't vents under the front seats? There are in a dc. I would think that there would be as well for the ac.

Didn’t read all the posts, but I would look into what type of interest rate you can get now, explore the trade in value of the truck. From what I read, the taco is not the right vehicle for your family, and they will just continue to out grow it. Save some interest, make the family comfortable, find a good deal.

I’d focus in on fixing the AC. If it’s still hot in the back seat then something doesn’t sound quite right. My daughter (6yrs old) is the most sensitive person to being hot I’ve ever met. She’ll have a 20 min meltdown if she gets hot. Needless to say, it stays cold enough for her to need a blanket in the back.

I hang on to vehicles for a very long time so I would keep the Tacoma and try to find a good used Sienna. We just sold a 16 year old Sienna with 177K on the odo that ran as good the day we bought it back in '04 as the day we sold it. I hated to see it go but the wife needed something newer for work so we had to say goodbye.

x2 agree 1000%, parents these days bend over backwards to pamper the supposely young and strong to the point of having to buy new vehicles because of their lack of comfort WTF my Dad said to me if you don't like something I had worked to pay for don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out and get your own, get the AC fixed and call it good

    @Zad

Best option: Sell the Tacoma private party (Craigslist, offer up, ebay).

2nd best option: Sell Tacoma to Carvana or Car Max.

Look up Nada values and add some to that. The Tacoma market is hot right now, and they are worth more than usual. I sold my 2018 few months back. I got more than I paid for it new.
