I just found out I’m having another one on the way and have a 8 month old. It’s already a tight fit with one rear facing car seat. Is anyone doing it with 2 car seats?
I talked to the dealership and they were willing to accept my tacoma back for a bigger suv such as the highlander. Really torn between the decision

Loved my Highlander (limited), it was plush, on the downside you couldn't haul trash in it.

4 runner was an option but the gas mileage really wasn’t impressive!

It’s a Tacoma TRD sport 2017 for Highlander LE , or they were willing to to swap it out for a 4 runner Sr5 Premium with $50 more on my monthly.
I’m torn between what to do. I’ve seen some people on YouTube say it’s possible to have two seats in the back of the Tacoma if the seats are all the way forward

Not sure how many kids you plan to have but you might want to get something with 3 rows if you plan on more than 2.

My brother had 2 car seats for a long time in his 07' Tacoma. His kids are 2 years apart so for a while they were both in car seats. It can be done, tight maybe, but doable

He also had a shell. So the backseat really didn't store much of anything (other than the kids). he kept everything else in the back

Only really need a highlander If you want to transport 2 kids in car seats ..and other people in the back.
You can switch the baby to a forward facing seat by the time the new one is born, put the infant carrier in the middle and still be able to fit a passenger in the back of the tacoma.

Rav4 is another solid option, great on gas.
    We’ve had a 4runner, a Rav, and now a highlander with 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas and 3 kids

People years back with smaller cabins in their cars/trucks made a family of 4 work.

If it was a solid trade where you didn't lose any money, make he trade otherwise I would try to make it work.

Two car seats in the back no issues for me. But the Highlanders are nice and would be more convenient for hauling kids around. Definitely would recommend some sort of bed cover if you don’t have one already. Those double strollers are huge and you don’t want it out in the weather.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Either you or the wife are going to need a bigger vehicle.

My friend, when we had our second child, things got interesting.
You should be thinking long term and get a reliable family sedan. The Tacoma does a lot of things well, but family sedan is not it's strong suit.

And congrats, this could be the best time of your life, enjoy the family while you can.

I have a Tacoma, wife has a 2016 Highlander. She had a 2007 4 runner she had for 8 years. She loves the Highlander much more than she ever did the 4-runner. It has way more room in the back and drives much smoother. I can confirm. But, I wouldn't want to take it off road far. Just depends on your needs.
