Every time a current gen 4Runner pulls up next to me, I can't stop admiring it. They look damn refined.

However, the end of the day I need a truck for it's bed. :/

I'm guessing not all had this problem at an equal level. Mine was just really bad. Here is how I saw it.. My 04 4runner with 220k miles shifts effortlessly and smoothly. My wife's 15 Camry has a 6 speed that shifts just as good if not better. I've had a multitude of Toyotas from an LX470 to a 79 corolla. And none left me with such a feeling of displeasure as far as driving them. My wife saw I was miserable and was actually the pushing force to just getting rid of it.. Her own words.. "don't make a payment on something that makes you feel regret.." So our next conversation went like this. "you love your 4runner, so why not just get another one?" I do need a small truck, but I can make due with high mileage 2nd gen for my needs later on down the road..

This is my baby though... 226,ooo miles and still running strong..

Not sure what kind of BS circle logic your talking about but it's really pretty simple, so I'll try and explain it to you so you can understand. People don't get rid of cars they love in less than a year. The fact that you are seeing lots of used 3rd Gens would imply that the people that traded them don't like them. If you can't understand this then I can't help you.

Go to the Ridgeline board and try and find people complaining about the engine, transmission, and other driveability issues...guess what you won't find any! It also has better brakes and will blow the doors off the Tacoma!

Used 3rd gens doesn't imply anything other than there's 3rd gens on the used market.

Plenty of instances where customers, Toyota or in many other makes where people have traded or turned in a car or truck within a few months of purchase, some are due to impulse buys only to realize they can't afford the truck, found a better deal or that the truck doesn't suit their needs anymore such as a pregnancy, job change, financial hardship or divorce.

Just because you might not have experienced it doesn't mean it can't happen. People change their minds on a purchase all the time.
