I really enjoyed the truck but the problems were just amounting to be too much for a new vehicle. It was a 16' v6 sr5 2wd auto.

    1. I got in a loud argument just to ensure that the transmission fluid was filled correctly. From new until after the first service, this argument went on. Behold it was a qt low.
    2. After this time, it developed a hard clunk when going from R to D. Transmission was updated at dealer.
    3. Skip now relocated to 2-3 gear. New update performed.
    4. After update, there started to be a hard grind when stopping where it sent into 1st gear.
    5. Problem progressed where randomly when putting the truck into D, the truck was locked in P trying to go to D. I managed to get it on video finally. (This was especially exciting when it happened at intersections as it did NOT move forward.)

Traded it in and went 4Runner. At this point, I just don't trust the 3.5L powertrain. There was a 16' 4x4 SR5 that had been sitting for about 6 months between 2 dealers and was offered a great deal on it.

Love Toyotas still and maybe in the future, Ill go Tacoma again but I'm really enjoying the 4Runner.

what does the 3.5L engine have to do with the transmission issues?

Probably made the right choice. Though very seldom do you find a vehicle without SOME type of issues our 4runner has been flawless. We prefer it over our Turd Gen. It is our go-to for road trips unless I absolutely need the truck bed.

May have dodged the Rear Diff recall issue too ...and god knows what else comes up down the road. Crystal ball tells me we're going to be seeing more turdgen recalls in the near future. I hope so because at least then Toyota will be doing something about these issues.

Did you take a bath on trade for the 4runner? Could lemon law have been pursued in your suit due to continued transmission issue and forced Toyota on a buyback?

4Runner are fantastic machine. Is it a PRO?

I'm guessing OP didn't want to screw around with a long buy-back process.

Very smart move. Got out just before the 3rd gen value nosedives.

Trade a lemon for a cherry, sounds like a win. Congrats OP. 4runners are sweet and made in Japan. Hum, connection there?

Toyota's still skating along on their rep. Tacoma being the most loved mid size who would trade a recent model in? Someone with a POS who can't take it anymore. Not the used truck I'd want to buy. And tons of buyers don't do their homework.
