The Tacoma is a great vehicle. It just didn't want to tow at elevation. I am not going to ride it hard up a grade just to maintain a moderately safe speed. Empty the Taco was great, loaded it's another story. There are some Taco guys that are diehards and that's great, as they have something to be proud of. The Tundra is only a few inches wider, and about 20 longer. First tank in the Tundra came in at 18.6 for the same place that the Tacoma pulls 21. So for what...2.5 mpg less you get almost twice the towing capacity?

I am not an engineer, etc... but I would offer to state that Toyota will be re-gearing the 3.5 and autos within a year or two. The Autos search for a hole to be in at the slightest headwind, grade, etc... and that is because the 2.90s are too high for the trans ratio. Toss in some 3.25s that the Auto will cease it's searching, actually pull a slight grade without shifting to 4th, and the gas mileage would go up because it isn't shifting all the time.

Tacoma is great, just not great at what I need.

Good luck to everyone, I hope you Taco lasts to 1,000,000 miles and then some.

Noticed that as well. Same pot holes from the mail box loop to the drive way as the Taco.
