Traded my 2017 for a 2018

First post. I bought a white 2017 TRD OR DCSB a year ago. It was almost perfect. Decided to trade it in for a white 2018 TRD OR DCLB. I got tired of tent camping and plan on getting a bed topper.

There are several differences between the two but most are because my 2017 had the premium tech package and my 2018 just has the tech package.

Package related: no automatic headlights. What a lame omission. Now I need to switch between headlights and DRL manually. I don’t understand why they couldn’t make that standard. Also no dual climate control so I need to operate the knobs more often. Somewhat annoying since I live in Utah where it can be in the 30s when I drive to work and in the 80s when I drive home. Can’t just set it and forget it... Also no moonroof. I love the moonroof but in reality I never used it very much.

On a positive note they fixed the passenger side floor mat!!! It’s anchored like the driver side and doesn’t slowly migrate to the front. There’s also the new safety features. I’ve only experienced one so far when I waited a little too long to brake and got a warning as I approached the car in front of me. I find it interesting that they added some new standard safety features but the side view mirror alert and backup sensors are still optional.

I know this thread is useless without pics so I will add some soon. One last thing. As mentioned above I’m planning on getting a topper. I did a lot of research and will probably get the ARE CX with windoors and Yak rack, but would like to know what other options are good to have. For example, do I need the folding front window? Not sure how that would come in handy.

You had automatic headlights on your 17?

Edit. I get it now, auto drl to headlights. I thought that it had it for 18 as well as an auto brights feature.

All Canadian TRD models have auto lights and dual climate control, we find it odd the choices you guys get haha.

I should clarify that I did get auto high beams. On my 2017 I left the switch on DRL all the time and headlights and dash lights turned on automatically when it got dark. On my 2018 I can leave the switch on headlights and they shut off when I leave the car but I’m assuming they don’t switch to DRL during the day.

I could have paid extra for the premium package but for 2018 it only comes with leather seats and I prefer cloth (and cheaper.) At the end of the day these are small inconveniences while the extra foot in the back is a must have.

By the way I also had heated seats on my 2017 and talked the dealer into installing them for free. Anyone have experience with dealer installed aftermarket heated seats?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I like the extra height of the ARE MX. As for the front window I’d do without it and use a rubber gasket around the front of the cap

Automatic Headlights are pretty cool, the day I bought my 17 I set the switch and have never touched it again.

The dealer will do it the cheapest and easiest way possible for them and the switch gear they use leaves something to be desired typically.

What do you think of the tss-p? Looking at getting a 16-18, is the tss-p feature worth a few grand more than the 2017?

Front folding window on your shell is for cleaning windows. Unless you're that gumby guy from the Fantastic Four (or is it five), it would be hard to get in between the cab and shell.

Yes, make sure they use a quality switch in an appropriate location.

Personally, my favorite safety features are the ones that don’t come with tss-p (side view mirror and backup alerts,) but I’ve only had the 2018 for a few days. The new features could turn out to be life savers.

I didn’t want to say anything because I thought it was all in my head, but the ride feels a little smoother and quieter. The transmission also feels better which is probably not related to long-bed but maybe retuned on 2018 models?

Don't know. Maybe someone else can chime in with a solution.
