We have a 12k toy hualer, and a 14k 5th wheel travel trailer. They are both a bit heavier than I listed. THe toy hualer is closer to 12.5 and the 5th wheel is closer to 14.5k
Nope. Both stock. One has the 6 speed manual, and the other has the 6 speed auto.

Congrats. I'd pick up an Ecoboost FX4 if I were getting a new truck now.

Most of their drop revolved around stupid issues such as quirks with the Sync system. I think most of those Consumer Reports-ish rankings give a skewed reliability view. I don't consider voice activated gadgets to be a reliability issue myself like I do if the vehicle is going to start and run and not give me mechanical issues. Not software issues.

Only other main issue they had was with the dual clutch transmission in the Focus having some quirky low speed behavior. Something I think there is already a TSB for. Ford dropping to 20th makes it seem like they are having major reliability issues which generally isn't the case.

From the posts I follow in the ford forums the Ecoboost is doing pretty good in the power and fuel mileage while towing. 5 mpg is a extreme case!!! Yes most modern diesels in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks do get great fuel mileage but aren't really practical for the average truck owner. With that weight other guys have posted significantly lower MPG on the powerstroke forums. There's no way I will ever pull 14k. With that weight a ecoboost isn't even in your vision. My father in law has a ford f-450 that gets 11MPG unloaded and 9MPG loaded with 19k monster of a fifth wheel travel trailer.

The smaller diesels are great but once you start adding liters the cost of ownership goes up alot. More expensive to service, fuel is more expensive, and original cost is significantly higher.

A high gas mileage, powerful gas motor will sell more units!

I was a huge fan of the Eco boost when they first started putting them in the SHOs, then they said it was going to be re-engineered for the f150 and in most of their cars and trucks by 2014. If you watch these videos you will probably be a fan too. I still love my taco though.

And so on, it goes to episode 7, like it or not you'll have to admit its impressive.

Those are very impressive comercials, but lets see how they do in the real world.

nice good luck with the ford.

i want more torque in a truck not horse power if i had the choice it would be diesel all the way. i had heard the new eco boost engines are great mills. i don't tow anything other than the side cart for my wife lol.

Glad to know there's alot of people view and enjoying the thread. Yes most commercials are stretched in truth, but these seems pretty straight. I so enjoy the power my truck has and I meet or exceed my EPA estimate at 17-21 MPG rating. Can't fake those turbos turning super bright red and getting run that hard for so many miles. They also had the ecoboost tour that let you compare Chevy, Dodge against the Ecoboost. I would have liked to seen a tundra in the tests. I am sure it would have been a closer battle than the Chevy!

Unfortunately I have not been able to actually tow more than 5k with my Ecoboost yet. The 5k was a small RV trailer and truck pulled great. It wasn't super aerodynamically efficient but pulled 14 MPG in town. I was doing a favor for a friend because he had go rid of his FJ.

That was something I was curious to see also. They had the Chevy and dodge but no tundra. :tumbleweed:

I had a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. I now have a 2012 Tacoma access cab with the 4.0. The F150 is just too darn big.If Ford made a F100 mid size truck the size of a Tacoma with all that the F150 has to offer Toyota would have serious competition from Ford.

The ecoboost no doubt is interesting and impressive from advertisements. I am interested to see them in the long run and cost to maintain.

I think the 2014 tacoma is going to be a game changer. There's some rumors eluding to the fact that its going to blow our minds. My guess is a turbocharged 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder options. Or hybrid so you get that low end torque with high (relative) MPG.

Like what nmcqueen said. Could your ford servive a meteorite hit. Or magically appear in a video game, get swollowed by a dragon and come busting out of his stomach lol. Advertisements are ment to make people believe. Its what really happens in the real world that counts. And tacoma's or more like toyotas are the most reliable vehicles out there. But my brother has a f250 superduty. He has all the bells and whistle to it also and if i was to get a truck that can tow. It would be that one. Same model and year which is a 2005 model. Dont like the newer model cause they are too high maintenance.

Now that I read this I remember seeing the OP post about getting 14 mpg while towing 5k lbs.

I tow my buddies z28 camaro around (thing is gutted with a cage etc.) which weighs around 3k on a car trailer that weighs in at 1.5k or so and I regularly see 12-14 mpg.

Doesn't seem like a big difference from the ecoboost in that sense.

I love the idea of the ecoboost, but I just can't see myself justifying it.

The resale on the tacoma is way better than the Ford or Chevy or dodge for that matter. When I look for a new truck I will keep my Taco and buy something else.
