Its meant to be a family adventure hauler, not a formula one car

Drives very similar to the TRD OR... it has that same rubbery yet solid ride quality. Road noise is well isolated and handles even the roughest roads with ease. Good road trip vehicle (minus the gas mileage).

Well, I have been on both sides of the fence. Had a tacome back when they first came out, then went 4Runner, due to having a family to haul around. Went through 4 of those, fromthe 1996 to 2002. I traded my Burgundy 4Runner in for the 2009 Tacoma. I missed having a truck , but ,see both sides.

Not sure it isn't super active but not too bad. The nice thing is it isn't over moderated like Tacoma world is.

I don't think so at all. I have an 17 4R and 18 Tacoma OR. There is a washboard section on the road by my house. The 4R glides over it like it's not there and the Tacoma bounces enough that the rear will kick around. I think the Tacoma rides pretty stiff unless you have weight in the bed.

It was sarcasm, there aren’t any issues with the engine or drivetrain

Unless the admin or mods on T4R.org have updated their security I’d stay away. It’s been hacked quite a few times and user information been compromised.

Great info and write up but security is lacking.

It just gets worse at any speed on gravel roads with potholes. The Runners get really squirrelly really fast. It may be a smoother ride, but not as controlled.

Not that it matters to anyone, but the odd time the group I go out with finds a good stretch of backroad where you can really hit the gas, the Runners always fall way to the back of the pack as their drivers just don’t feel safe at speed in the rough stuff. If you follow a Runner, off-road, at speed, you can see the back end articulating all over the place, not in a good way. The Tacomas sit planted.

Probably irrelevant for getting the kids to Soccer, but there are some trade offs with the T4R other than the obvious.

That’s still a work in progress. Got the voodoo blue so shouldn’t be difficult to come up with something good! Lol

I started out with an '88 4runner, SAS'd on 37s, then to an '01 Tacoma TRD OR and now my '18 TRD Sport. See the trend?

Congrats OP. I'm thinking about trading for a Civic Type R or Ram 3500 dually. Enjoy your new truck.

The main thing fellas complain about is how Toyota uses fuel from the tank to cool the transmission and just dumps it on the road while you drive along. Or so I’m told.

Can't seem to talk my wife into one. They are kinda ugly and dated. But I think they're the best vehicle on the road, precisely because they are old and bulletproof. I'd take the 4.0 right now in my truck.

Bought my kid a 2007 4runner for his first vehicle and it is awesome. It actually rekindled my interest in Toyota and is probably why I bought the Tacoma. But the Taco drivetrain is definitely more fussy and I doubt I'll like it as much at 140k miles as I like his.

    Subtle sarcasm in his comment.

I put this little project together this week for my 4R.

For reals. I drove my 04 for twelve years before joining TW and discovering grills were a really big fucking deal.
