I understand your point of view but they are all in competition for people's money. They are an alternative to fiberglass shells and in that regard they are in the same niche. Once one of the alternatives to ARE, Leer, and Tradesman start making taller shells it will narrow the market share that much more.

How much does a camper like this cost? I like this more than the GFC and Drifter.

To make a long story short these were not enough to hold my shower tube. Longer write up is in my build thread

Looks good. For a fairing you could fabricate something on that rack or get a Yakima type like the one I have.

Bummer! I’ve been really happy with my 50L roof top tank I got from Ironman 4x4. It’s only about 4” tall. It was only $130 delivered, much cheaper than front runner’s tanks.

I'm happy with the tank I made. I was trying to save time with the cam nuts. Been fairly stable with the square Yakima nuts.

Where did you see it for that price? I'm seeing it for $230 online, and no one has it in stock...

That's pretty nice. I say build a sleeping platform and no need for an RTT.

Unless you haul an ungodly amount of gear, aaaannnd need to sleep at the same time, a good drawer system and sleeping platform should suffice... and save MPGs

But free? That's awesome! I'l probably have an aluminum topper on every truck I'll ever own

Thanks, yeah I already have a platform made, currently selling it. Not really wanting to sell the RTT lol. I may just run this topper in the winter for some added weight.

I'd be wary about putting a RTT on top of an ARE DCU. I'm not even sure what they are rated for.
My favorite thing about the commercial caps is the large side doors and how easy it is to add tool boxes there.

Does anyone in here have a Tradesman cab hi topper? I’m interested to see how flush it is with the cab. I’d like to run a tray style rack on top of cab and camper that are nicely level to one another.

Stumbled onto this thread and I'm really interested in the Tradesman Custom Truck Top. I would consider driving to California if I had to, and could make a vacation out of it, but does anyone know of anywhere closer to Dallas Texas that I could get a custom aluminum top like this?

Edit: And is Maria@accessmfg.com still a valid contact to get some info on this? It was 2 years ago when that email address was provided in this thread.

That is still her email. Just ordered one of these and will be making the trip from Portland to pick it up at the start of a road trip next month. Not aware of any southwest businesses. I’m convinced the Tradesman is the best quality of anything out there. Good luck.

I'm looking to see if I can get one of these built with some added crossbars in order to mount a GFC tent on top as close to flush as possible with the shell. I see a lot of these shells with ladder racks and portions that extend upwards, so I'm hoping they can do the opposite and have then extend outward to match with the hardware required to mount a tent. Has anyone seen or know if this is possible before I give them a call? Thanks

most of the companies can add additional cross bars for the ladder rack. I believe Tradesman will be better to work with for making a lower profile rack. You could also beef up the inside of the camper like this:
