I bought a '15 black TRD Pro instead of a 3rd gen just a few months ago. Here are some reasons:
    • You can get a lot more truck for the $$.
    • Power. The 3rd gen is a slower truck. Plus you can add a supercharger to a 2nd gen, no chance on the '17.
    • '15 is the last of the 2nd gen which means they worked all the bugs out in the 10 previous model years. This truck tried and tested.

    On the other hand,
    • If you filter out Spitty99 and collateral posts, a total of 3 negative posts remain in the 3rd Gen section :crapstorm:
    • Transaction fees are high. Weigh how much it's worth vs. how much it'll cost to sell your '17 and buy the '15.

    Here's what I'd do:
    1. Turn off the 3rd Gen forum for a week and go drive your '17. How do YOU like your truck?
    2. Calculate the costs / benefits of trading for the '15 Pro. If it's worth it to you, go for it. You'll love the Pro.

Keep the 17,I had 4 2nd generation Tacomas and love the 3rd generation better. Stop reading all the 3rd generation nonsense and be happy with that 17 trd pro. Resale value will always be there, look at the 1st and 2nd generation frame problems, hasn't affected resale one bit.

I would do it so long as it doesn't put you in the hole at all. Functionally and cosmetically I feel the PRO is a superior truck. I would never have gotten a 2wd in the first place, myself, but hey, you do you. I doubt either truck will have a difference in value 10 years from now.

That's true, atleast on the 3rd generation they beefed up the troubled areas pretty good

I'd make that trade just to get 4x4. Other than that I would still trade, but I am very biased as I think the 3rd gen is very ugly and I dont like the engine. I waited to drive one and check them out before I bought my 2015 and could not be happier.

Trade it in, Toyota only made 1200 TRD Pros so you will have something that most buyers can't own... I have a Pro and I'm total satisfied with my purchases and it does get noticed. :)

I have one issue with my 3rd gen. There is a rattle in the passenger tweeter. Not sure if its a speaker getting ready to blow, or something that's just loose. I have great MPG's, usually 21 to 23 with the V6. Now, if i put my foot in it and romp the b***h she looses MPG's quicker than the current president can spend money.

I have had no issues with the low trans fluid, i have had no issues with howling, i have had no issues with vibrating hood or drive line.

The only thing that I regret about my 3rd gen is not getting 4x4, but the cost benefit analysis of 4x4 or 4x2 for me was not worth the additional money. Sure when it snows it would be nice, but lets be real, if its snowing im working from home, or on a damn ski slope.

i never owned a 2nd gen so I dont have a large opinion one way or the other. But, I will say, life is too short to regret decisions made, its only money and we cant take it to the grave. We only live once, so do what makes you happy.

You mean go backwards and don't look forward.

OP, I would do the trade for 2 reasons already stated in this thread. 1- you only have 2 wheel drive now, so I would want 4x4. 2nd- as one poster stated the pro's are limited number.

That being said, my 17 should be built a week from today

    Vehicles aren't investments.

If you like the truck, enjoy it and stop worrying about what everybody else thinks. If you don't like it, trade it in and move on.
