Depends on what you are looking for. The Canyon definitely has more power but not everyone is looking for max power in a Tacoma (and they shouldn't be). What don't you like about the GMC?

I like the rear step in the Canyon's rear bumper. I think the Tacoma needs that.

The good news is you're trying to do some research before you buy.

Suggest doing a lot of reading around here and take a lot of test drives as well, in various models.

The Tacoma bed step is perfect for that function. I have one on my taco and love it.

You're gonna hear all sorts of people on this forum saying the 2016 Tacoma sucks. Some will say they like it. Just go test a few.

About to buy one. Got my financing all approved and got my 2002 posted for sale. Just waiting someone to buy my 2002 and I am going to order one. I have probably gone on 6 or so test drives though. Tested all configs (including manual).

The Off-Road Taco version doesn't have the front air dam... FTMFW! Taco just looks more like a 4WD truck than the Colorado does.. that's for sure. My opinion.... I love my Taco and I knew it when taking it for a test drive - didn't make it out of the dealer lot and I said "sold".

Can I ask what you don't like about the Canyon? From what I hear they're awesome trucks.

Pretty quick and easy to remove the dam from any model. Took me less than 5 minutes...

Trade in is still pretty good on the canyon, sure not as good as a Tacoma but still decent. GM doesn't offer tons of incentives on their mid-size trucks so that doesn't hurt their resale like it does with full size trucks.

or..... you can spend maybe 5 min. and remove a few screws on the sport
that hold the air dam in place.

I love my third gen, it's not perfect but it is a great truck just get the trans fluid level checked when you get it just to be safe
