Huh it's weird. I know nothing about 3rd gen problems with my truck. But I guess non-owners know better?

OP, if you have a GMC it tells me you are more into refinement than for instance a rock crawler. Also you 'complaints' about the seats, radio and cruise control confirms that. Nothing wrong with that; those are similar to my needs.
I would suggest you look at the new Honda Ridgeline. You will have better seats and radio, and I am pretty sure the cruise controls are on the right. They are not out yet, but go test drive a Pilot, since it will be very similar.

The truck is hoestly mostly the same, it's looks different and has a different interior and the engine is new to the Tacoma but it's not a new engine

This is a new engine. It may share similar components with some of the Lexus vehicles but it is not the same. There are quite a few people on here that love their 3rd gens.

Me too. Fill the tranny and put on a few thousand miles and you'll love the truck.

Yes. It fixed a few stupid issues. Seemed to drive smoother and not search for gears as much, hesitation from reverse to drive while it is cold was almost completely removed, and it seems to get a little better gas mileage. I attribute that to less friction in the transmission but it could be that it is finally broken in.

I don't think you can be an armchair quarterback and talk about how bad the truck is just by reading posts on here or by doing a test drive at a dealer. If you want a true barometer of what the truck will be like you'd need to drive a used 2016 or drive someone you knows truck that has been broken in. The stupid learning transmission makes it very deceiving until it is broken in

    .
I test drove a Canyon & Colorado and liked the GMC Canyon better. Nice truck, but not for my needs.

With that said, I can't put it into exact words, but Tacoma in general over Colorado & Canyon (GM) was by far the best choice for me.

When you buy a vehicle, you buy the culture and philosophy of that company & country .... And Toyota & Honda can't be beat IMO (especially their "J-Vehicles")

While my 2016 has some small issues, IMO, it is by far the best midsize truck available in the USA.

If you want a more civilized "kinda of a hybrid car/truck", go Ridgeline.

Toyota, Honda and Subaru are the only 3 choices on my list now.

PS. Many things that break on a vehicle are "outside vendor supplied items" and Toyota & Honda really buy high quality outside vendor supplied items ... from light bulbs to bolts and nuts to whatever. Many other manufacturers really cut here and make profits here too.

Many Lexus "outside vendor supplied items" have a LOT of " MTBFT" (mean time between failure tests) .... Really more than any other manufacturer.

You won't need 80,000 miles Give it about 60,000 and watch it come unglued

I'm certainly no fan of the new GMs so I'm not trying cause trouble when I ask this, but do either of you know anyone with that many miles on their Colorado or Canyon? Are they reporting a lot of problems out of em in the Chevy forums or something?

Legitimately asking because it looked to me like things were looking up for GM with these trucks. I'll take my Taco any day but I'd still like GM to get their act together.

... ^^^... Many times these are cheaper "outside vendor supplied parts" that cause failures later.

There have already been a couple of recalls on the new gm trucks.

I love my 2016, but no vehicle is perfect. It is the nature of the beast and what one is used to or not familiar with. It is hard to tell if a tacoma is for you without listing what you don't like about the canyon and what others may be able to compare it to.

For me, if I didn't get a taco I would have bought an F150. But, man I have to park in some tight parking lots and I don't like having to navigate a much bigger truck. I have three kids and they all fit fine. An F150 would have much more space inside, but just not ready for the fuel cost, size, and don't need the power. The most ive ever towed is a 22 ft pontoon with trailer that was about 4400lbs and it did fine.

Oh yea, no argument here. I've owned a 1st gen, excellent truck, 2nd gens are awesome as well, but they weren't without problems either. Many of the same things people have complained about in the gen 3 (vibrations, buzzing, transmission shift points) were also problems on the gen 2, even on some of the later years. I don't think you can expect any manufacturer to make a vehicle 100% without flaws, but personally I haven't found anything wrong with my gen 3 so far. I just flew back in after a week away and I was having withdrawals lol..
