Went from a 2000 4Runner to a 2017 Taco. No regrets. Better gas mileage and I love having the new tech.

That's what I did. Traded my 2002 for a 2017. Every time I drive my truck I comment on how much I love it. I would never go back to a first gen.

Filling out credit app online as we speak. Looks like I'm joining the dark side of Gen 3 owners...

Drive it to confirm.... and remember a test drive doesn't obligate you to buy right then and there. But a manual truck is hard to find and the price you quoted is a very good deal.

Yeah this has no moonroof. Just want to be sure that the increased seating height doesn't keep me from seeing out of the windshield.

I'm 6'4" as well. I have the sunroof. It's fine but can see how it might be a little close for some folks.

Just drove my 2017 TRD Off Road MT home last night. So far I am loving it! Picked her up with 5 miles on the clock and have been slowly breaking it in since. Thank you for all the input all you guys gave me.

I would keep your current 2001 and get a 2017.

I have not experienced or seen the issues people are posting online and have yet to see one in person. People on our forums seem to be overly sensitive, they hear a tick in their new truck then complain about it on the forums even though its a normal characteristic of the engine. Sometimes I wonder how these same people even make it out their front doors everyday.

Anyway, I never owned a Tacoma before the 3rd gen and the only other Toyota product I could compare to was a 2015 Corolla, I owned Fords before that, and my wife has a Subaru. That being said The Tacoma is the best vehicle I have ever purchased to date.

Dallas, you were literally in the same boat as me, except my bulletproof 1st gen is an auto and I badly wish it was a manual. So far I have resisted temptation. I have gone to look at a few DCSB manual TRD off roads, but I have not test driven one yet. Maybe I will, and/or maybe I'll test drive a 2018. I just CANNOT find a way to justify getting a new truck with the complementary (large) monthly payment when mine is fully paid for. Not to mention my dog who I love dearly is a beast and makes one hell of a mess. It would drive me nuts in a brand new truck. In my current one I clean it every two weeks or so and don't really care.

Be careful with the test drive. Once I got behind the wheel I had to have it. As others have mentioned it is quite the upgrade over the first gen. Pics will come soon!

My first vehicle was a 1992 single cab, loved that truck. Kept it 10 years while I had other cars then she finally broke in half. Then got an 05 and sold it, wanted to get another pickup, was looking for exactly what you have, but the ones in somewhat decent shape were upwards $15k with loads of miles, which is the only reason I went new. Price of a 10-15 year old truck with miles vs. ran down new just didn't work me. I do love my pro 6 speed. Has its pluses and minuses. Nothing will ever beat that old 92 though.

Dood, grats on the new buggy...you won't regret it, until I predict about 5 yrs from now. When your 17 Taco will still be so much fun to drive and you will reminisce about that 1st Gen. Then you'll start perving CL for a nice survivor 1st Gen and see what they will command in price. And then you'll say to your 5 yr younger self..."Dood, make it work. Keep the 1st Gen AND get the 3rd."

Then, you'll say "Awe, fvck it..." and buy yourself a nice survivor 1st Gen to compliment the the '17.

    Its a fun ride dood...enjoy!

    Sweet!! Welcome to the family.

You made the right call with the MT. If you're anything like me, you will love it the more you drive it. Try driving around for a day with no regard for gas mileage, keeping your RPMs up in the 3-5K range (well, after break in naturally). It's a blast!

    Congrats on your new truck!

Give the little pedal a tap to bring the rpms over 2.5k before you let out the clutch. It will give you more than enough torque to bring it to life from a stop.

I think I'm at 520 miles now on my 3 week old 17.

Kept my 97 Taco, as I've owned it since new, and don't plan to sell it other than to my son some time down the road. Been such a great truck.

Congrats man, I think we knew you'd love it lol!

Drivin the Canadian unicorn here :canada:

I'm not sure if Toyota enhanced the throttle "feel" in the 17's, but if you find it a bit delayed (laggy) the OVtune takes care of that and a few other things.
I love my truck, but even more so now that it's not held back by the OEM code (no I don't have stock in OVtune and don't benefit from sales).

    Enjoy!
