Hey everyone. I was at the dealership today, made the salesman sweat bullets, and agreed on an offer. After a couple hours, they agreed to take my 2013 with 125,000km for $25,000 CDN and sell me a 2016 with 4km on it for $37,000 CDN. It's still subject to financing, but I ended up getting the monthly payments less than my 2013, and I ended up with $6000 equity toward the new truck. Only depreciated $4500 over 3 years and 125k km lol. Good old Toyotas. Mine is a '13 Black Access V6 SR5, the new one is a '16 Black Access V6 SR5.

Just curious on how you all like your 3rd gens. I was super dissapointed with the transmission acting like a baby giraffe, not knowing how to walk properly, but after even 20km it started learning my driving and shifted way smoother. I have the weekend to think about the offer. I like the 6 speed transmission, I do a lot of highway driving, and it runs a few hundred RPM less than mine which adds up. My 2nd gen has never had one hiccup or problem in the 3 years, I am a little nervous about a brand new gen truck, but I do love the new body, the new responsive touchscreen dash, and the screen in the gauge cluster.

Should I keep the '13 or pull the trigger on the '16?

I specifically wanted an access cab in black, SR5 package. I have never been a fan of full 4 door trucks.
Minus 125,000km's. I drove this girl to Hell and back, it'd be nice to reset the clock. The new engine and transmission are the only reasons I am wanting to trade up. The new body and deeper box (use it daily for work) are bonus. If these were still 4.0 5 speeds I wouldn't even consider it.

What's new for '17 though? Bugs worked out?

To get a 2017 or to get a 2016 on "clearance"?

    Thx for all the input.

I'd wait for a 2017 if going automatic. New gear ratio in rear end for auto trans. Should help pep it up a bit too on low end.

Definitely going auto. That's interesting, do you know the specs of the new ratio? Put that 35hp to work lol.

My SR5 AC has met my expectations and some.

If you drove it and you like it, go for it.

Higher numeric value for gear ratios means more torque on the low end correct? How about highway fuel economy? I do a lot of highway driving, but a more peppy acceleration around town would be a nice bonus.

Can't effect it too badly because they have to maintain some fuel economy for CAFE. But consider that the 2016 is realistically only getting marginally better gas mileage than many years of the previous generation....you're not talking 4 or 5mpg difference from 2nd gen to 3rd gen to begin with. It's a 6 speed that already struggled to stay in 6th with 3.9s. Which is why I'd guess they decided to bump up the rear ratio. It should overall be a huge improvement for drivability. Low end torque lacking is one of the major criticism of the 2016

Youre welcome. Check fuelly.com and compare the last 6 or 7 years of Tacoma compared to the 2016 average fuel economy. Yeah some people are getting 23mpg averages but that's not the norm. Fuelly shows average to be closer to just about 19mpg combined.

37,000 for a 2016 SR5. Don't know about that one. I would wait for the 2017. I have seen TRD 2016 sports and OR 4x4 being advertised for 34,500

Agreed. Dealership near me has a 4x4 sr5 at 32,500, and I was able to talk them down to 31,500.

My '16 is great and problem-free. With that, you might as well wait for the '17s which are already landing at dealers (at least in the US).

Exactly. Here I make $44 an hour doing electrical. Down there it would be in the 30's. It all works out.

The only info I can seem to find is on the TRD pro. There's a lot of hype for sure.
