Trading in a DCSB for an ACLB, anyone do this?

Due to getting into the housing thing, I’ve realized my life may be a little easier with a long bed (plus I can throw a motorcycle in and keep the tailgate up.

My main concerns with an ACLB is the backseat room. My dog is mainly the only one that rides back there, but I do wanna make sure he has sufficient room and doesn’t feel cramped (even though he sleeps 90% of the time he rides)

Don’t have any kids so that’s not much of a concern (knock on wood) Just wanted to see if anyone has gone short bed to long bed and was it worth the trade in hit?

Why not double cab? They’re not THAT much longer. I had one and they already felt cramped in the rear, can’t imagine what a AC feels like. It isn’t a train.

My dog fits ok in the back of my access cab. I put a blanket down for him. He’s 60 lbs so he’s a big dog but not 150 lbs malamute big.

I need 4-doors, so I personally would look at the DBL cab Long Bed.

I went the other way and went from ACLB to DCSB, if you want my dog deck that I built for the AC, you're welcome to it... or I can take some pics if you want to replicate.

I went to DCSB because I wasn't really using the long bed. I put in the Decked system and really liked that. I had a camper shell on it and had envisioned sleeping in the back but the roof top tent option ended up being much more comfortable, however adding the roof top tent on the shell killed the gas mileage so not a lot of positives and I just traded it in January for the DCSB. Now I can get more aftermarket goodies because everyone seems to have a DCSB... and I put my tent on a rack so it's lower and now it doesn't seem to hurt mpg.

Friend of mine has the DCLB. Not happy with the manueverability . Says their still isn't a ton of room in the backseats. I don't know about that but I do know that the 6 foot bed is nice to have if you are using the truck to do project type stuff. I'm sure there's a reason but I wonder why folks that buy the DCSB and put a camper shell on it, don't just get a 4 runner?

    Still stock completely capable!
Truly comes down to pretence but I have a DCSB with a small trailer and it works perfect. If I do dump runs my trailer smells like ass not my truck and when I go out since I have large breed dogs I put gear in the back seats. Dogs in the box and bikes on the trailer. But all comes down to what you want and need. My vote is trailer.

Sold my DCSB for ACLB and love it.

Made a backseat platform for the dog and he’s got plenty of room. 75# Newfoundland poodle.

CRF450R. Fits with the tailgate up which is awesome.

Can sleep in the bed without having to lay at an angle and bend my knees like in the short bed.

Rear AC doors open, so easy to get stuff in and out of the back seat.

Only issue I’ve had is getting into the back doors in a parking lot. Like say loading your groceries. That can be tiresome because it’s difficult to get the rear doors open in parking spots near other vehicles.

I just made a platform for my pups to put in my access cab and it's great! Sturdy and it doesn't move around at all. I never owned a double cab though...

    Right on!
Here’s mine. He loves riding in the truck.

Double Cab is definitely a better choice if OP drives around 2+ people. The backseat of the AC is fine for around town and such, but it gets cramped for people.
    Doggo however it’s perfect.

Good looking pup right there! I agree 100%. If I had kids or constantly ride with more than 1 other person then I would have gotten the DC for sure.

    Thank you!

My gf had a 3rd ben DCSB, just recently traded it in for a new 4runner. Way more comfortable in the 4runner when we have more people. But the two of us and the dog, the ACLB is perfect.

DCLB. It's the only way. They actually look like a truck and do everything you need them to do.

Dirtbike in the back? No problem.

I went the other way, I had a ACLB for 10 plus years and went to a DCSB. The access cab served us well, two boys and many chores – it did not have a trailer hitch being a 2.7 5 speed.
As the boys grew up, the rear seats got awfully cramped. Even got to the point that my wife would ride back there instead of them. I have a 5 x 10 trailer I use for work and normally pull behind my van. I rationalized the double cab by the fact that it has a tow package and a hitch.
So far so good, it pulls the trailer and my sons dirtbike just fine and I am definitely enjoying the extra space in the cab. I also did not want to deal with putting the motorcycle up a ramp into the bed given the deck height. To each their own though

you guys are good company , I like the idea of not trading my truck in and getting a trailer. 5’ of bed and an 8 ft trailer makes a lot more sense now that I think of it financially
