They should have the kinks worked out in the next model year but paying $40,000+ for a truck and having in the shop for weeks on end sure would suck.

You can read quite a bit on www.fordtruckenthusiast.com too, enough to scare you. My son sold his '05 6.0L powerstroke for a loaded EB...loves it! Driving just between work and home, constant 4x4, and long warmups (he don't get the garage too!) and he's getting over 18 mpg...better'n I'm getting by a couple. Who knows...I bought a first year 6.0L powerstroke...haven't had an issue and she gets over 20 mpg in the summer. That used to be so dang cool...back when diesel was cheaper!!!! Good luck with your decision OP!

Well I don't know what truck really gets "good" mileage while towing lol. I wouldn't buy the Ecoboost for the couple mpg better fuel economy I'd be looking at it for it's increased capability in towing, acceleration etc. Cheap option if someone needs to be towing more since the other option would be jumping up to the Lariat for the 6.2 and adding a lot of coin to the price.

If I were getting a new truck now it would probably be an F150. As with any vehicle if you look on a forum you'll see problems pop up and make it seem as if every truck has it since no one is really posting to say "hey just wanted to let you know I'm driving my truck and have no issues." I'm sure they'll have the issue with the EB sorted out.

Funny I just traded my f150 lariat super few in for my Tacoma. Man it had a lot of toys and was plush, but the Tacoma has everything I want and 20mpg I was 12.5-13 in my ford. Again if I had people constantly in the back for long trips or clients you wanted to give ample room to the super crew would be better but for occasional short trips the double cab works great.

Guess I kind of got all starry eyed for the Heated/Cooled seats, sync system, 8 inch navigation screen, basically creature comforts really.

Fords are quiet as hell. It's like being in a casket in those things - very plush. That's about the only thing I like about the F150 - my Taco's sound system would sound a lot better if it didn't sound like I was in a wind tunnel on the interstate.

Try driving a Fit. The Tacoma was a haven of sweet silent ambience to me.

A lot of those ecoboost complaints sound like compressor surge to me. I wouldn't want to be the engineer tuning the auto tranny logic around that one when the main reason for the engine in the first place is better mileage.

I've felt it myself. Kinda felt like the same kick the old 302 V8 would give on regular gas going up a hill.

In a nutshell, surge happens at low rpm when there's enough flow to start spinning up the turbos, but not enough to keep the intake flow going one direction, so it starts to intermittently go backwards through the compressor housings. The only ways to get around it is to change turbo size, reduce throttle load, or downshift. In other words, they'd have to give the tranny a mild case of Tacoma Cruise Downshift Syndrome to make it go away completely.

it took me way to long to get back into a toyota and im not looking back. I started out with a 2000 tundra 4X4 that wasnt yet a year old and the guy traded it in. my dad took it off my hands when i went into the military and he put almost 300,000 miles on it. me personaly i will never own another ford, i had one burn up on me with 50,000 miles on it but i still looked at the fords and every other truck out there before i went with a 2011 tacoma. i almost got a new tundra and would have bought an 06 if they didnt want an arm and a leg for them '' gotta love that resale value'' the tacoma is perfect for me though and im lovin it.

Everyone wishes they drove my truck - but for some reason they don't. It breaks my heart to see some 30-something smuck in a minivan come pullinginto Starbucks with their windows down, stereo bumping. Guess they feel "cool"? Sad. really sad".

When I read this part of the thread I laughed my ass off. I love seeing guys in their 20's, 30's, 40's driving their mini vans all sad when I drive by in my Tacoma(I'm in my late 20's). They know they could have bought a Tacoma but the person who wore the pants(which wasn't the person driving the van) made them get the soccer van. Also the same sad look from guys in domestic trucks. I just stare because I know they wish they could trade me lol
