A little update on my bs. Went in and they offered me 37,000 :( talked them to 38,500 for my trade. They have a Red and Silver off-road in allocation. My payoff is $22,600. Signed most of the paperwork work already. Don’t officially take possession of the truck till it comes in on the 25-26th of December and sign on the dotted line. Financing $28,100 extended warranty included in that price so around $5,400 more in debt lol. Should have just got a 4wd in the first place  but the plan is to keep the truck till the wheels fall off. So Im more than likely going to buy it when it arrives. 2022 Trd off-road 4x4 DC in silver. Also has the upgraded led headlights fog lights, black out badging, tail gate insert, black tip on exhaust, tint

You can do just fine in a 2WD with a locker. 2WD are considerably lighter and fun as hell to drive when outfitted nicely.

I loved my 2WD and never got stuck…just avoid thick mud

For your sake. I hope you don't wait till you 600 miles on it and then realise something you forgot or wanted and turn around and traded it in. :boink:

Coming out only $5400 more in debt by trading up to a 4X4 was money well spent IMO. You'd have paid $2000-$3000 more for 4X4 initially so you came out better than expected with the trade. In the long term you'll come out ahead with a 4X4 vs a 4X2.

I guess that depends on where you live. If I'm not on pavement thick mud is the only other option. And often in winter there is snow on steep mountain roads. All of which makes a 2wd truck useless.

Yeah it’s not to bad, just kicking myself for losing out on money and making a dumb financial mistake. I agree in the long term it’s worth it. Small upside is already have some aftermarket wheels and tires so I can sell the stock setup and recoup 700-1,000 grand hopefully. Looking at the bright side :D

Coulda woulda shoulda. It's history. If you decide to pull the trigger you'll have done well in this mad market. And you got over for $1500. Hope it works out well

It's worth asking what's different in Dec 2021 than Nov 2021 (or whenever you bought the truck) that made you realize 4WD was what you really wanted. In November you made a decision to purchase a $40K truck based on some internal reasoning, and if it wasn't strong enough last month to make you pay the additional money then, is it a real reasonable thing now or is it just you overthinking it and reading too many 4x4 regret posts.

Keep in mind the new gen Tacoma will probably hit in a year or two, might be worth waiting and at least seeing what that looks like just in case you get similar regrets with your '22 4WD.

    Man....

I wish I had this kinda eff you money. 5400 more for the vehicle, and thats not including the 6.25% on the second sale so ~ 2500 more in taxes. Call it 8isK$ extra.

Can I make a stab at a guess, you just went "whelp the monthly is only x amount more thats dooable".

Why do you want 4wd? Did you get stuck? If not, wait until you’ve gotten stuck multiple times and then consider 4wd. It doesn’t make a bit of difference driving around the mall.

It’s kind of unlikely you will get “700-1,000 grand” for the factory tires, but I guess you never know. If you get $700,000 please post back…

Agree, don't get a 4wd just to say you have one. All Tacomas are 2WD 99% of the time, it's not like you're going from 2WD to AWD.

    A few.
Gotta take into account the sales tax savings in most states when trading in compared to buying new straight out also

I recommend the red over the silver. But I guess you could always trade up later. :D

OP, I bet you're a real treat at all the restaurants when it comes time to order!

Do you always wait till after you buy to actually decide what you really want?

Are you going to have to pay a "market adjustment" on the new truck? All the dealers are doing that around here, now. MSRP + $5000!

Don't expect much from the OEM tires/wheels. I struggled to get $400 for weeks when I sold my tires that only had a few hundred miles on them. Even at that, I only got $375 but it was better than a red hot poker in the eye. You might have to give away the wheels. Nobody wants to pay for such specific OEM's with standard offsets and what not. There are 3 craigslist ads for '21 TRD OR wheels in my area and they are just stewing on craigslist. I just Plasti-Dipped mine till I decide which aftermarkets I want and have even thought about buying a second set of OEM's for more aggressive tires when I need them but haven't done that yet. I'll low-ball the shit out them when I do, though. :p

    Good luck with your transaction.

If it was me I'd rather spend $5400 on a 4x4 truck or SUV that I wouldn't mind getting scratched up and keep the shiny new truck shiny and new, but it's not my money!

Either way, I don't think you should settle because it's going to eat at you, so I hope you get what you want!

I second this. Also check Vroom, check them every week to see what is the best price you can get! Definitely higher than dealer.
