Traffic and Weather apps on 2016

I have the TRD Sports with the Upgrade package. We don't have HD Radio in Canada. My Display does not show "Traffic" or "Weather" as an application option. Both spots where they should appear are blank. My dealer tells me once I cross the border both spots in the display will be displayed. Not sure he isn't feeding me a line. I figure I paid for the feature and it is handy to have.

Thoughts and opinions?

I'm in the US but in an area with no HD Radio. The weather and traffic are still there and work as long as I have my phone connected through entune with the app. I don't see why at least weather shouldn't work in Canada that way

 

I could be wrong, so look into it but I believe that is incorrect, I believe that it has to do with what SD card that toyota puts in. Its in the front of your radio in the lower right-hand corner. Like in Hawaii, they have a different SD card they put in thats not the same as here in the states, ( from what I have her here on the forum)

 

I was led to believe that Canadian Taco owners can't get the Entune Apps - so if any of those features depend on any apps - we're out of luck. Having said that, because I'm in Victoria, we can get HD Radio stations from border towns like Seattle or Bellingham, etc.

 

Well I paid enough for the truck. I have a good relationship with the dealer so if it can be added he will get it for me. Here is the radio package I have in my truck:
Premium Display Audio, AM/FM CD with MP3/WMA Player, Audio Auxiliary Input Jack, USB Audio Input, Bluetooth Capability, 6 Speakers, Navigation System, 7 inch monitor, Advanced Voice Recognition

I noticed you did say you had the JBL package, do they offer The traffic and weather in the packages below the JBL ?

 

I have no idea but will ask when I see them later this week. Returning home from Alberta tomorrow.

I just looked it up. If your truck window printout does not say Premium & Technology Package with JBL. Than you will not get the weather and traffic, If it does say Premium & Technology Package With JBL, than you should. The JBL adds the entune(witch adds weather & traffic) system according to how it reads.

 

I always thought that all TRD'S got the weather but according to how it reads, you need entune, but once again I could be wrong

 

It is the Premium & Technology Pkge. Not sure about the JBL. I will let you know on Wednesday.

I have premium tech no jbl. Weather and traffic are present and work on mine.

Edit to add: no entire app running.

 

Where are you located and do the icons show in the two slots on the bottom right of the display.

US. Not sure where they are when I hit the apps button. Can look tomorrow as it is 17F out, and I'm enjoying some Canadian beers right now. Blue light if you are wondering.

Have you checked the owners manual?

 

Nothing to indicate what system is required. With your post I am sure I can convince my dealer to install.

I've been drinking Blue since around 1995 to the best of my knowledge. Used to cross the border to buy it when I was in the military.

 

According to the Canadian supplementary "Navigation and Multimedia System Owner's Manual", Traffic and Weather are HD Radio or Entune App Suite features on Entune head units - since there is no HD Radio in Canada, and no access to Entune App Suite in Canada - you're out of luck. Don't think that dealer can help you there. Having said that - I should check to see if when I tune into the HD Radio station I can get here to see if the weather or traffic app selections show up.

You'd be using your phone's data plan if you had the App Suite anyhow.

I'm OK without those features - I can get that info in about a dozen other ways.

Been wondering this myself.

I live in Hawaii and have the tech and premium package without the JBL (dealer didn't order that option for all '16 Tacos in the entire state - lame). I've been trying to do some research and it seems like without the the JBL upgrade, you can't get traffick weather and all the other apps like Pandora etc...Is that correct? (HD is available here)

If I try to register my VIN in the Entune app it says it's not compatible.

 

No JBL here. Premium & Tech, weather and traffic work and have since day one.. US Western Wa. area currently.. Downloaded the Entune app for my phone today and the truck did a software update while they were sync'd. After the update, I have more apps like pandora, sports, stocks etc.. I figured this out by RTFM in a starbucks drivethrough
