My radio box that I am ALLLLLMOST finally done building.

I plan on taking the CB out and putting a CB/SSB unit in its place. The HAM radio is a Yaesu FT-8900R 4-band. Technically, my radio box will have 4-bands, LSB, USB, and "CB" for a total of, again, technicallllly 7-bands.

When it was under construction. Currently in storage because of moving. But anyways...

SSB is voice audio above or below the center carrier frequency of a particular channel. The "Extra Channels" is 40 channels above and below the original 40 CB channels within the 11 Meter band. This is where I purchased it. They list the channels by frequency on the left where the mod is offered.

Within the "10m band"? Very interesting if that is the case?

I work with SSB related comms. What is being described here is pretty interesting for it being a "native CB unit".

That's awesome ! I'm looking to do one with an IC-7100, mtx115 and a cb that's yet to be determined for deep woods safety.

Might set up a tablet so that in a true end all be all emergency the mrs can use a code generator to key out if need be.

I'm more safety concerned with my trail comms than I am group conversation wise. Packs are short. Like mentioned above, most CB and GMRS are well up to the task.

Mine is going to end up being battery (i.e. only for short burst emergency TX'ing), external power, and/or car cig port capable. Meant for HQ type setups or SHTF deal setups. I've seen setups at the "Field Days" and hoping to get mine ready this year by then??? I doubt it though and will have to wait until next year as FD is just around the corner... allllllready.

That Icom is nice and :spending:. My old boss had a few different Icom radios and that being one of them.

I'd be interested in what your method is to get 12-13V nominal from Li polymer batteries. Stepdown xfmer?

I can back feed it through the charger. I'd be restricted to qrp, but if I'm using CW hopefully someone in the area would have the ears to pick me up.

Or I could just use it as is, the ic7100 will take up to 15.9v. The bigger thing for me is the c rating. It won't be my primary, but for small and portable it's not bad for emergencies

Uhhhhh, plenty on my end... Long Beach Fire, LA County Fire (wide), police, air traffic, etc.

But yes, things are going digital. There is a thing as "analog trunked" and still very widely used. I came from that as my last job of roughly 12-13yrs. All depends on your cities radio setup.

Well, I goofed up. Started having issues with the VHF/UHF HAM rig transmissions. Seems one of the set screws holding the whip worked itself out, and got some water in it. Forgot the blue loc-tite. Time to try a different antenna. One that doesn't whistle at 70mph.
