Haven’t been on here since I sold my 2013 Baja supercharged. I’m wanting to go back to the Tacoma, and can’t decide whether to buy trailhunter or trd-off road and put a king suspension/camburg. Are trailhunter buyers happy with purchase? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Save the 10 grand and buy the Off Road, unless you really want skids, ARB rear bumper, high mounted intake and rocker guards

First Trailhunter owner response here. Ecstatic. It is more than about the shocks.

Trail hunter is accessories galore, they ride nice, but its basically kitted out and ready to adventure.

They are pricey but no muss or fuss. We took it out on a service road and it did well, its not fox offroad suspension but its a very capable suspension.

Do you want a short bed or long bed? I believe if you want a hybrid with a 6 foot bed, you have to get a TrailHunter.

I wanted turn key done with warranty, but the dealerships are smoking crack around here with markups. I didn’t really feel like modding going back and forth tuning but may end up doing that with an off-road. I really like the pro but the iso seats kill the deal.

What color are you looking for? MSRP and below I assume.

There are a couple in the DFW area, and one in Midland. All advertised at MSRP. There’s several 3-4k off across the USA.

If you only talked to someone on the phone at Keating, that isn’t in writing. I always get a sales sheet with all the line items in email before I ever go to a dealer.

Looking in Toyota.com inventory, there are several more there I didn’t see on cars.com. 2024’s and several 2025’s in the build phase. Recommend you do some calling then get solid offers in email.

I just picked up my Trailhunter last week. Dealer was asking $7500 over MSRP, but only option they added was the bed liner. There were 4 other TH short beds in CA- most were MSRP+options, but I wanted that color and didn't want to pay $70 for some red USB cables or other stupid gimmicks ($1500 for "paint protection" LOL). I emailed them asking if they'd take MSRP+cost of the bed liner and they agreed. My take is they're expensive and not moving as fast as they'd like (especially when people find out there are no incentives for the TH/Pro) but many dealers hope there's a sucker who will walk in off the street and just pay it. I probably could of negotiated a bit harder, but they over paid for my trade in, so I consider it a wash.

I can't yet say how the truck is for offroad or loaded down (had to cancel my trip at the last minute), but the suspension is excellent and the turbo+hybrid makes stupid power. I was afraid the raised air intake would be annoying after an hour (I'm not 12 anymore), but with the windows up, you don't notice it. If you don't want the hybrid (does make wiring up a winch easier), the premium package, or have a specific suspension setup in mind, then obviously get the offroad. If you hate moonroof's like I do and want the premium package, then the TH does that. The truck is pretty ready to go- other than some better tires and yes the mullet bar has gotta go...
