i was being a little dramatic. im not gonna say how i came about this vehicle sadly i never test drove it. so this is where im at. do you think if i replace the shocks in the rear with say some fox shocks it would smooth the street driving out?

    Yeah.
As others have asked, is this your first truck? It's unclear what you are comparing the ride to. If you have never owned a truck, it may just be what you are used to.

You might start by adding a little weight in the bed, maybe 100-200 lbs. See if that settles the back a bit and improves the ride for you.

It appears that the Trail Edition accomplishes the front lift by using taller springs, but not sure if anyone has good specs on the springs or shocks used. But the only way the spring would be a cause is if it is WAY oversprung or has excessive preload. If they used the same shocks as other models and the springs are heavily preloaded, that may make the front feel stiffer than a non-Trail model. But I find it hard to believe that Toyota would do that.

It sounds like you are unhappy with how it rides in the rear, though. I'd put some weight in the bed before throwing money at it.

not my first truck but my first tacoma. this truck landed in my lap. im gonna take some air pressure off. do you think if i upgrade the rear shocks itll smooth out? yes im ignorant to all things tacoma.
i didnt expect caddilac but im new to all this do you think replacing the rear shocks with a better quality would help and what shocks would give smooth street ride. it seems the rear is where the rough ride coming from.

I think typically the aftermarket shocks (and springs) for the Tacoma will make the on-road ride stiffer/tighter. You could message one of the vendors here on TW and explain to them what you’re looking for in terms of ride quality and they can probably help you out.

yes it seems to be the rear that is causing the issue. just wondering if say a fox set of rear shocks would be an easy fix im not trying to redo this whole suspension. never rode in or owned a toyota truck.

You could look into buying some take-offs from a TRD off road because those have the softest ride of any stock suspension. I just don’t know if those will work with your truck, I’m not too familiar with the trail edition.

I just want to see someone use these shocks on the Trail lift.

Get a set of 265 75 Duratracs and the TRD skid plate while you are at it.

    Yeah.
Just put some weight in the bed first. Grab a few bags of play sand or something at Home Depot. You could replace the shocks and find you still just needed some weight in the back.

Removed some stuff, added some stuff.
I’ll say my sport is rough off road when I’m pushing it hard but that’s cause I beat on it. When I’m rollin slow it’s not terrible. Could be better. Waiting on the cash to upgrade to king 2.5s

I have a trail. Mine rides rough also. Especially offroad or on unevenly paved ground. Going up a mountain on a fire road, my back was shot after about 30 minutes (I'm in my early 30s). Its just how they ride. I think its because of the spacer lift they put on these things. I've sat in and driven other non trail tacos, and they are a night and day difference.

Why did you buy a Tacoma if you aren't going to throw money at it?:D

an At The Helm rear bumper would probably help as well.

    Yeah.
Only the rear has a spacer for 0.5" of lift, which shouldn't affect the ride quality. I'd be more concerned with the longer springs in the front for the 1.1" lift they get with those. I suspect there's a bit of additional preload involved, like people getting 5100's and putting them on the highest setting to get the max amount of lift and complaining about the rough ride (duh). But again, I really don't think Toyota would do something that extreme and that most of the lift comes simply from the taller springs, with maybe a little coming from more preload than other models. OP seems to think it's the rear, and I would bet that a couple of bags of play sand will make a difference. A completely unloaded truck that is designed to carry stuff is going to be a bit rough.

If I set my airbags for a 600-800 pound load for a trip and forget to let some air out when I get home and unload, the back rides rough. That's pretty much what I would expect -- the spring rate no longer matches the weight I am carrying. Damping is equally important, but you have to start with matching the spring rate to the load.

Get some proper suspension, obviously. Overtime I became used to mine and I don't off road enough to justify spending that kind of money on proper suspension. But if you have the money, and it bothers you enough, perhaps it's worth considering.
