New to occasional use towing and have been looking at proportional trailer brake controllers--Tekonsha P2 (90885) seems recommended, but I see the company is promoting the P3 (90195)--has anyone had any experience with the P3?
Or should I be looking at time-delay controllers like the Drawtight?

I don't have any experience with the P3 but I do with the P2 in a F-350 pulling a ton of different stuff and have nothing bad to say about it. Works like its supposed to. Honestly with what you will probably pull in a Taco either would be fine IMO.

Good. Many thanks. I had overlooked another thread which mentions the P3 favorably. My guess is that the primary difference may be just the display and controls.

Sounds reasonable to me. Just about like every gadget. seems like they change the display color or the trim on the box and call it new anymore

Tekonsha primus IQ is recommended by me. No angle adjustments needed, that gets very annoying. I had the IQ in my Tundra DC and it was very nice and easy to use and the digital read out of braking power was nice. Great unit, and cheap. Easy hookup to towing package equipped vehicles. All you need is the vehicle specific plug for a Tacoma. The wiring was about $15 for my Tundra.

I love the p2 I have. Works very well and makes stopping so much easier. Either way I don't think you can go wrong p2 or p3.

P3 has more a larger digital read out. They are the same units. P2 is about 25.00 cheaper.

Many thanks to all--really useful information. I went with the P3 and after overworrying about getting it set right, made a round trip CA to KS with modest loads on a smallish two axle trailer. No problems, easy to test with the lever. Now I can worry about adjusting the brakes and bearing grease and the implications of running quite a bit in 4th gear (5 speed automatic)--another thread on this forum. Again, much appreciation.
