So, I have decided to build my outdoor trailer. The reason behind my build, is to have a little more flexibility once we set up camp. The roof top tent is perfect once you set it up, but once it's up, your stuck there unless you take the tent down. I started watching threads, and planning out my needs on a budget. Luckily, my friend is a great is also a great welder.
I started this build December 2017
    The beginning:
    Resized952018010795161226958012.jpg
This frame pattern seems to be the standard for most builds. Here it's all laid out ready to be tack welded.
    Resized952018010995193023957514.jpg
I purchased a 3500# Dexter axle without brakes. The hub has the same bolt pattern 6x5.5, so I won't have an issue if I have a flat. The TRD wheels were a big splurge. Here we're getting the perches and spring centers set. I flipped the axles to give it a lift
    Resized952018011195164416958903.jpg Resized95201801119516453895198.jpg
Started adding on the supports. The sides on this will be around 20"
    Resized952018011395130623954466.jpg Resized952018011395145236955767.jpg
Next part was to add the skins to close it up. At this moment I'm still planning to keep this trailer open. I added tie down points at the bottom.

The next stage of the build is to start on the rack that will hold my Tepui Kukenam Ruggidized.
    Resized952018020595172318952972.jpg
Height of my rack should be the same height as my existing setup on my truck. It's time to fit the fenders on. This is the tricky part, since most larger tires won't fit normal trailer fenders. Here we just cut the fenders and spread them to fit.Resized952018022195163850958477.jpg
The next part of the build is to start the removable swing out gate. The swing out gate will also hold a drop down stainless table.Resized952018021295163149955625.jpg
The rack is all welded up.Resized952018030695201056955922.jpgThis may be a little overkill, but I know I won't have an issue with it cracking. I'm going to be running a pintle. Resized952018030995163332954073.jpg
    20180312_203245.jpg
I did add a rear receiver to hold a bike rack if I want to.Resized952018032295194958956909.jpgI took this trailer out for a test spin. Everything seemed to track well. The pintle is a little more noisy, but nothing to bad. Once the tent is mounted the extra weight will smooth out more.
Currently, just need to button up a few things. Then, it's off to start the wiring. I bought some all white led lights that are bright.20180315_173125.jpg

I love the trailer build, yours looks like mine from the layout, the top rail, the squared fenders. I had so much fun building it with some friends. We built some lockouts and covered them and they help out a bunch when needing to open the tent. Can’t wait to see it finished.

    Looking good!

Looking forward to more pictures and details. This is a project I'd really like to take on for myself as well so I'm taking notes.

Closed off the tongue, and added d-rings to the sides.

I got my trailer back from the powder coated. I like it. Next step is to wire it up. Then off to the testing ground.20180420_144000.jpg 20180420_144010.jpg 20180420_144057.jpg 20180420_144104.jpg

That looks great, you will love using a trailer for camping. I built this about 5 years ago, you should look into Tepuifest this year.

That's a nice looking trailer. Was that picture taken at Prewit Ridge?

Cool trailer! Has a similar look/design to mine. Any plans for a lid at some point?

I was on the fence about adding a top to it. I do have enough space on the top to close it off if I decide to. I did fabricate mine based off your design. I should take it out on its maiden voyage in a week or 2. I need to wire up the lights.

That was a good article. Might check the calendar this year and see what's happening.
