i am looking to add a trailer hitch and wiring to my 2016 SR and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hitches and wiring? I am tempted to try and install the hitch myself but may have a shop install the wiring as I am hesitant to mess with anything electrical on the truck myself. I have heard Uhaul does install hitches and wiring but I am very hesitant to let Uhaul touch my truck. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

It’s easy, just buy a Curt or Drawtite at eTrailer and the wiring you can do it yourself in less than 30 minutes and about $150 total plus free shipping, no tax.

etrailer.com is probably the best place. Curt hitches are good quality hitches and the wiring is pretty straight forward if you get the harness.

I just did the wiring install on my SR a couple weeks ago, I got the tekonisha (sp?) wiring kit from etrailer.

Pretty straightforward install, you pull the taillights out, unplug some stuff and add in the harness. Hardest part is fishing the power wire from the battery to the module, I also used positaps instead of the butt connectors to connect the power wire.

Basically if you are even somewhat mechanically inclined and can follow instructions you should have no problem DIY.

From what I’ve seen the Toyota OEM are 2-3X as much for basically the same thing.

I’m certain any Toyota dealer would sell you the OEM hitch and harness, don’t know the exact cost.

I'd be surprised if it was only 3x as much to go OEM. It's probably integrated into all the rear light wiring on tow package trucks, so you'd likely have to rip out your entire harness and replace it.

Can't say about toyota but customers get my ford dealer to put hitches on vehicles and its not that bad, some suck but most are plug the trailer wiring module into the wiring harness and route the wire to the correct place.

The OEM hitch is around $250 for a truck without the tow package. It's just the hitch without the sway bars like the tow package hitch. Good luck getting the dealer to sell you the wiring harness. You'll need a good parts guys who knows what you need. They may try to sell you the wiring and htich and that's about a $1,000.

Take it to local hitch place have them install it for you. A good one will even give you the 7 and 4 plug connector that mounts where the OEM connector goes. I wouldn't take it to uhaul and there are some threads here saying how ubaul butchered peoples truck.
