No disagreement there. I thought about that before I changed the orientation. The reason why I don't have much of an issue is that the spring loaded cover is used as a lock on the pigtail plug. To get the plug out of the socket, you have to push the cover away from it to disconnect the simple latch to let it slide out. So horizontal, vertical, sideways, upside down, doesn't really matter, the plug can't escape as long as the cover is in place. When I did the Honda fix I discovered that the back of the socket ate a lot of crap in general. Mud, grit, water, etc. Getting it up behind the spare tire is a good thing. Either like I have it or through the bumper. The stock position is just shitty for an off road vehicle.

I just unbolted mine and zip tied it up to something behind the bumper, pointing down. Mine even has the little flap door torn off. I just hose it out with WD-40 before and after I use it.

Drilled a hole for mine, used one bolt and nut to secure it, silicone to seal it to the bumper. Harness is all tucked out of the way where it won’t get snagged.

I even have a brand new Toyota replacement socket and harness still in the bag. My original unit was a little broken when I bought the truck but it's still serviceable. I scrubbed it off one day about a week after I got the truck and just did the zip tie, lazy mod. It's worked fine ever since. In all fairness, I don't pull a trailer often, but it works fine.

I have a Diaz fabrication that I didn’t end up using before I sold the truck. $30 plus shipping and it’s yours. If you’re near Annapolis, we can meet up. 0A1E312C-2053-468A-AEE5-FE868CB80A6F.jpg
