A lot. Check out my build page.
I relocated mine up into the bumper. Had Insain Fab do it for me. Just drilled a spot between the license plate and the drivers side license plate light, mounted it flush there....done. Works fantastic.

This is the best way. Takes a little longer and you have to cut your bumper but its worth it.

As far as I am concerned, drilling the bumper is the only way to go for anyone who tows on even a semi-regular basis.

Looks similar if not the same as the taco 2016 plug, I thought going that route but would have had to relocate to the bumper proper, as it doesn't fit between the plate and plate light, 05-15s don't have a large flat spot like the 2016 tacos

Yeah I am thinking with so many problematic 2016 trucks there bound to be a lot of rear bumpers with tow hitch on the market. maybe I just wait little more.
I like that Tundra design because its it has both plug types built in.

Because some people w 2016s are finding their tranny coming a half quart low from the factory doesn't mean they are going to get junked and parted out lol.... guess you could find one that was wrecked, but then can u swap a 2016 onto a 2005-2015? I don't know, maybe the bolts are all in the same place, but I'm pretty sure the angle where the bumper meets the bedside is diff.....

Too late to relocate my stock one as well. Smashed it on my last trip. I just bought the same Hopkins plug you have. Are the wires easy to figure out? Any help on what color wires go to which pin is appreciated as the pins on the new plug aren't clearly labeled.
    Thanks

I found a thread that tells let me look for it...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trailer-plug-relocation.195296/#post-9183047

the hopkins should come with a diagram (edit added pic of diagram below, )that shows which pin is which, I would suggest attach wires and either use a multimeter (pain, using cheapo light up 2 pen style indicator easier )or I think most auto parts stores have a plug in gizmo they lend to tell if the wires are hooked up correctly, maybe call them first to save a trip , if it's right then attach them better.. unplug harness bring it inside, alot easier to work on , be careful it's easy to snap the little retaining hooks that hold the harness clip together (ask me how I know)

Checking is a pain, but look at it this way, if you don't have a trailer on hand you are definitely going to want to check the connections /make sure the hopkins unit isn't defective one way or another, BEFORE you need them.

I used ring terminals shrink wrap and solder ( definitely overkill) then dielectric grease, also dielectric grease on the pins on the exterior of the plug, so they don't get corroded etc. Figure do it once and forget about it

Green: Tail Light Red: Left Rear Tail Light White: Ground Black: Battery 12v Yellow: Backup Light Blue: Brake Light Brown: Right Rear Tail Light

    Hope this helps!

@Jazz1one I added a file shows interior of hopkins plug, if you checked the post before I edited it,,, I cut a hole in my bumper between the taillight and my license plate, then cut the mounting bracket before the bend.. the bracket, or the flat part left kinda holds it all together, or at least that's what I thought. I also sealed the plug box with rtv , and then I used an old neoprene insole to make kind of a gasket between the bumper and the plug, because the bumper bends a little there.. once again total overkill...

Well, I pulled the trigger and did it.

Drilled and tapped 2 m6 holes and bolted it on.
