I will make one note. I CANNOT and WILL NOT give Interstate (Trailers Plus) a recommendation. The quality is limited to looking good, build quality is not there.

I used to be a trucker and most trailers are steel, I'm not sure why you think their mostly aluminum unless your thinking of the sheathing on the 53's. For the extra it costs and how much I'm going to pull it will cost more in the long run.

Quite a few are getting into aluminum main structure. I know Dorsey makes aluminum flatbeds, often used for lumber.

6x10 is plenty for one bike and all your gear. Two bikes should fit in a 6x10 using a restraint system like the pitbull.

The 7' width becomes too much hassle for tight roads in my opinion after you add 10" on each side for wheels, especially if you don't need the width (car, SxS, etc).

If you have the money and space, go for the 6x12, you can always find a use for a bigger trailer, and the tandem (with brakes) will help the weak taco brakes.

Why not consider an open trailer out of curiosity? Track bikes are flogged anyways not like your trailering to a show. I understand it would be nice for keeping gear dry but a truck bed with a shell / tonneau cover is just as good. If I was going to be trailering bikes and required an enclosed trailer Id be stepping up to a full size personally as we have to many mountains around here to be lugging an enclosed trailer full of bikes and gear with the 4.0. Not sure where you're from and if the commutes are fairly level an smaller enclosed single axle wouldn't be too bad.

I have been using a harbor freight 4x8 as a work horse for the past 8 years and I have beat the hell out of this thing, fits two full size bikes just fine, hardly know its back there with one bike.

I have a 5x8flat front trailer without a ramp door. I have fit both my Kawasaki Versys, and my dads Honda Shadow in it at the same time. It was tight, and 1 bike was facing backwards but they were secure and safe.
With 4 extra feet+ v-nose you could easily fit 2 bikes in a 6x12 plus all your supplies for the day.
Next time I buy a trailer most likely be 6x12 V-nose, will definatly have brakes and a ramp door.

Cost me 400 bucks on Craigslist. Bought new tires, rebuilt the hubs, led lights and I built the gate for the back.

No way on the open trailer, we have salt on the roads in MN and I plan on using this trailer to haul bikes around in the late fall/early spring when salt is on the roads. If you think the salt won't get on the bikes even if their covered then your not from the rust belt.
