I'm considering upgrading from my current PreRunner to a base model 4x4. Based on what I see on Toyota's website, and what I've noticed in available inventory, the base model is not available in black (the only color I'm considering) with the V6 tow package. I am familiar with what is included in the tow package and know that most components can be added with either OEM or aftermarket parts.

My only area of question is with Trailer Sway Control. Does anyone know if the system involves additional components, or is it something that is programmed into every truck (I believe it's related to VSC)?

    Thanks.

Not sure I would buy a truck based on the Trailer Sway Control. It is simply a computer program that "helps" control trailer sway (or so they say). It would only be a feature if you are pulling a larger trailer and even then, a quality WD Hitch with Sway control would do as much if not more. Then again, the Factory Tow Package is a great deal as it is only a $650 add on and gives you a class 4 hitch, tranny cooler, engine oil cooler, full wiring for the 7 pin connector, and the sway control. The port added hitch is not a class 4 hitch and does not have any of the other goodies that the tow package has yet has a sticker price of $550, so you get a ton more stuff for the extra $100. You might have to go for an SR or SR5 to get the color you want...not sure on that one.
