Looking into towing a small car carrier with a 2000# VW on it. Not a "tail dragger" but a full, albeit smallish carrier. Ive seen towing capacities mentioned between 2000-3500 for my 3.4 5spd I'd be near the max on this I suspect even on the high side. I've got a good hitch. Anyone run a set-up like this ? or is it a bit too much to ask of it. Ive got a 600 mile trip planned.
The TRD gives me a little suspension help but not in the brakes dept.

I believe your total payload capacity is 5,000#. You won’t break any speed limits, but it should be ok. Towed a 12x6 enclosed trailer from Michigan to Georgia to Colorado a few years ago with my 3.4

    You should be fine.
Your truck is a manual, so you won’t have to worry about trans temps.

    I pulled well over 3,000lbs with my 99’ 3.4 w/Automatic
Your truck should be just fine.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Make sure the trailer has enough tie down locations.

Trailer brakes are a big help.

Many Times I have come off hills in first gear never touching the brakes.

I hate Interstates so I avoid them. I am happy driving 45 to 55mph on State Roads and US highways

Ah yes! After reading Bivouac's response just now, I realized that I forgot to mention TRAILER BRAKES!
Pulling that much weight, they are a MUST! And adjusted correctly, they work wonders when pulling a loaded trailer; truly a confidence-builder!
I bought this one by Tekonsha and installed it in about an hour, and I didn't even have to adjust it!:

Here in Pa any trailers with a GVW over 3000 pounds must have trailer brakes.
