You figure wrong. They hybrid in the Taco and Tundra are NOT for MPG. It's a powerboost. You will absolutely get dogshit fuel economy if you put big heavy tires on.

Correct it’s for boost but the battery is helping get those heavy wheels turning off the line. Folks are saying the mpg drop isn’t so bad. Snickers added 35s to his TH. Maybe he can report back when he’s got some time with them.

Only had 33s for a day and half. Computer said 20-21. On 35s, computer says 18-19. Haven't had a full tank of gas on 35s yet. So, it might be a few days for actual measured data.

I would be more worried about transmission heating up than MPG. But we’ll know all this stuff over the next few months.

    OBTW, Goodyear Territory 33s were 40 lbs. 35 KO3s are listed at 63. 33 KO3s are 57.

Edit: And no I didn't ask the kids at Discount Tire to stop the hustle and take measurements. Didn't have the nerve.

I was just speaking toward what OP was saying. You don't get to upsize tires for free and a Toyota truck hybrid unit isn't going to do much to help that.

35s cannot be good for the already questionable drivetrain even on a 2nd or 3rd gen you definitely would shorten the life of your transmission and rest of the drivetrain

Really? I havent seen any 4g on 35’s.
i heard you can fit 33’s without a CMC but i’d be shocked to see you able to fit 35’s at full compression without cutting

It’s well documented all over YouTube that you remove one plate that has 3 bolts on it and you got 35s. Again, @snickers just did it.

There is no vehicle where you can put larger tires without consequences like MPG and stopping distance etc. But I bet it helps to have battery pushing the heavy tires off the line. That’s where that extra and instant torque down low matters. And you’re not using the engine / turbo as much off the line. So .. maybe the hybrid is a good platform for big tires. None of us really know anyway. We need time to see how it plays out in real life.

Never said or implied it was free. I did imply that with a decent starting MPG, 35's wouldn't be awful like my Bronco.

@snickers you experience any rubbing yet? I think you just removed crash bars right?

Remove plate in wheel well. 3 bolts. Done. No rub. At this point you’re either trolling or very glacial on the uptake.

Removed crash bars and factory skinny mud flaps. Driving around town nothing yet. Waiting for my garage not make me a sweltering miss before I get it up on stands and do full compression with jacks.

First, the 4G has almost exactly the same rear seat area as the 3G, only the hybrid models lose the under seat storage. So there is that. You are losing, not gaining space.

Second, if you already have a 3G Pro, you already have a more capable off road vehicle than the 4G TH. It ~800lbs lighter, has better angles and a better turning radius. If it were me, I'd keep the 3G Pro, and buy a nice efficient driver like a Camry LE hybrid for commuting/hauling the kids around.

My PRO was stolen (assuming you’re talking to me). That’s why it says “RIP” on my profile … Despite missing those advantages of the PRO, which are undeniable, I’m happy with this truck as a do-everything vehicle. If my pro weren’t stolen I’d have continued using it as a do-everything vehicle as well (I’m not a multi car guy). This 4G is better for the 99% non-trail driving I do, so it’s not a bad overall tradeoff.
