Go different tire brand . You said problem started with the tires … I would start with that .

My tires are 75s, so a little more sidewall. I immediately felt less responsiveness around corners on the street vs the OEM 70s. And it felt a little more floaty. I never got on dirt with the OEMs.

I want floaty. I’m getting the opposite. It feels like a Porsche on low profile tires.

Excellent. I wouldn’t have expected that. Hope they find a shock blown seal or something.

Almost certainly a direct result of the far stiffer and heaver E-rated tires. The stock tires are not even C-rated, they are "SL" or some similar metric between P and C. You went up 2 full tire classes.

I've seen this many times on truck forums, people make massive modifications and claim "drives exactly the same." As someone who comes from sports cars and works in the bike industry, I can guarantee you that making big changes will not lead to the truck "driving the same." They either don't have very finely calibrated butt dynos (likely) and also have confirmation bias to affirm their choices.

On my 3rd gen, I was able to tell a huge difference when I reduced the unsprung weight on my manual TRD Pro by a few pounds per corner. Can't even imagine how much bigger that difference would be in the other direction on 18 inch wheels (I ran 16s on the 3rd gen) with big E-load tires.

Not sure why nobody is saying this, but I can guarantee you it's the source of your complaint. Heck, you even seem to agree it's the only thing that's changed. E Load tires are designed way more for weight bearing purposes than sidewall durability in moderate off roading (I grew up in Texas and can assure you there's not a single rock as sharp there as the average volcanic bedrock in places like Arizona or Oregon). E Load tires would be great for max towing all the time, but that's not what you're doing with your TH.

Re-read the OP's message again. "I’ve since swapped to SL tires". SL -> E -> SL. Problem continues.

Yeah. But I’ll say this. The Falken sidewall on SL felt as stiff as it was on the E (or almost). The Toyo C load and Mickey Thompson SL were much softer. (This is me feeling the sidewalls unmounted at DT.) So I can still try a different tire and maybe it will help. Only thing is the Falkens are super popular and nobody else complains. I’ll report out later after I’ve exhausted all possibilities.

I will go back to OEM tires and wheels first to eliminate all other variables.

Also, the SL falkens + lighter wheels is def an improvement over what it was with the Es, but still nothing like when I first got the truck.

If it’s now the truck is supposed to drive that’s totally fine but I see others riding dirt / gravel roads at 30mph with 35” max terrains and talking into a YouTube camera without any issues, like independence overland (loaded, unloaded, aired up, aired down), and that isn’t what it’s like for me on some super tame tires so it is hard to understand what’s going on. Everyone with the TH seems to say it rides great in these conditions.

If you are only having issues in one driving condition I don’t think it is the tires. If the tires weren’t balanced or even a bad tire (out of round) it would be noticeable on hard and soft surfaces. Especially on the road at highway speeds. So it is either tuning or suspension/drive line. Just wondering if you were in 4wd or if there is a difference between 4wd and 2wd.

Thanks for the feedback here. It’s actually super firm on all surfaces but it just becomes intolerable on rough country roads to the point that I just have to really slow down. It doesn’t seem like the tires are out of balance because I can drive extremely fast on the highway and it is incredibly stable with zero vibration (if surface is smooth). I think it’s just the way this suspension is tuned on my specific truck maybe? If you put a gun in my head and asked me to guess the issue, I would say the most likely cause is a combination of stiffer tires and maybe my truck from the factory just came with shocks that were charged a little bit too much or springs that were set a little bit too tight, and those are things that are nearly impossible to diagnose by a dealership, so this just may be my cross to bear with this vehicle. Suspension being set too tight tracks with how a truck with very tight suspension behaves, I think? Very little body roll, very firm on bumps, excellent cornering and highway handling, but chaotic vibration over bad roads. I’m gonna try a few things out before I give up though (tires, take back to dealer to diagnose etc.).

As far as tires go, I am convinced Falkens are particularly firm especially the AT4W variant.

I think folks are tired of hearing about this so I appreciate all the help.

    Woah really?

Can you describe? Which surfaces? And when you go over cracks in the road do you feel the truck kind of drop firmly?

The 25 model I drove was def smoother than mine. I really think this is a shock charge issue. My hope is eventually a TSB comes out for it. Let us know more specifically what you’re experiencing.

Maybe that new car high is wearing off and you're just super attuned with what's happening? It’s a body on frame pick up truck, regardless of all the new tech it's still going to be a rough ride especially with aggressive tires. I love my 24 TRD Sport but it's definitely a bumpy ride, maybe even more so than my 21 TRD Sport. Just kind of the nature of the beast with a pick up truck with sport tuned suspension, aftermarket tires and a stiff frame.

Not my first truck. I never had this issue with two different third gens on the same roads. Most folks can drive on a basic country road at a modest speed without chaos in the cabin. Could just be the OME/TH setup but very few other TH owners reporting this issue — @Vidman is the first and waiting to hear what he says.

Been driving and repairing 4-wheel drive trucks all my life.. I’m 68 and I know when something isn’t right.. it has a slight shake-vibration between 30 and 48 mph.. I feel it mostly in my seat but doesn’t do it all the time.. if I put it in neutral while coasting most of it goes away and after 50 mph it is perfectly smooth.. steering wheel is fine with no vibrations or shake.. it’s definitely in the drivetrain somewhere. I swapped my tires from front to back and no difference..it’s not my tires or I would feel it all the time.. I’m thinking something in the hybrid system not happy at that speed so I’m going to just wait to see what Toyota does about it.. my dealer says it does have a strange shake but have no idea what it may be. I noticed the shake the day I drove it off the lot.. I have 875 miles on the clock

That is certainly drivetrain. On smooth surfaces my truck drives perfectly. So I think we’ve got different issues. I really hope you figure that out. Ask for a Toyota field tech.
