whoa, for that price, I’d get a Rivian R1T and not look back on ICE ever again. But that’s out of the range I’m willing to put into a vehicle.

Nice. I’m between this and a sequoia. Do you ever tow with it?

I want to buy a new cruiser but the value just isn’t there. The base model starting MSRP is $15K more than a pretty well loaded 24 TRD Tacoma. Not sure what I’m paying for …..

Is towing a requirement? If not, you should at least take a Subaru Forester Wilderness for a drive.

Do you mean the full time 4wd? Other than that, the engine and drivetrain are the same.

I know Subarus have made it really popular, but how many people really need unlocked 4wd? (AWD)

I hear you, but when starring down a $65k midsize pick up, and a $75 midsize SUV. The name on the grille becomes less relevant.

All of that combined makes it the superior drivetrain. It's also a full time 4wd not an AWD system.

You already know (Tacoma Trailhunter or Off-Road). I made the mistake of selling my 2nd Gen Tacoma and having two SUVs. It’s how I ended up with my 3rd Gen Tacoma. Having two different types of vehicles is more practical.

If it is that close of a call for you, maybe see the differences in costs to insure them and for annual registration/taxes combined with the consideration of the extra $3-5k for the LC as well as the expense of tires, wheels and rock rails you said you wanted immediately for the LC. Don't forget that the LC also uses premium fuel for some reason. All that stuff adds up quickly for what are really only slight differences in capabilities. Personally, and I'm not saying you are wrong for doing it because it is your money, but I wouldn't make the decision based on how it will suit my needs for a single situation/trip.

Right, but what makes it different than part-time 4wd is the 4hi-unlocked mode, which is almost identical to common AWD systems.

They ditched in favor of electronics, but Subaru also used to have a torsen center diff, so exactly the same as the 4Runner limited and now LC250.

What I wish we had is the multi-mode 4wd from the 4th gen 4R: 2H, 4H open, 4H locked, and 4L. The open AWD sounds nice, but I personally don't see a need for it to run all the time.

I agree. On dry roads it would be more fuel efficient to run 2HI.

I test drove a LC 250 1958 edition. I have owned two land cruisers and am on my third one.

The LC 250 is just a land cruiser in name only. I don't need youtube videos trying to convince me otherwise.

Like the Bronco sport or the newer chevrolet blazer. Didn't like it at all and I usually consider Toyota vehicles made in Japan far superior but the 250....nah.

Between the trail hunter and the LC250, I feel you will get more used out of the trail hunter in this case.
