    hey yall, about a week ago i got a check engine code for the tranny overheating, it never came back and i was bout 1/2 a quart low on fluid, i have 6 k miles since my last fluid change, ever since every time i put it in drive i hear an extremely loud clunk, it doesnt do it in any other gear


    i also have a fubbarred fron diff but idt thats the problem, any ideas

    Any leaks on floor under trans? I don't think that being 1/2 a quart low woud cause a clunk. Check u-joints for play by turning drive shaft.

    Checking the fluid level can be tricky. Level site, hot or cold oil in trans?, start truck then go from park to low to reverse and back in park to make sure oil is in the torque converter, with engine running in park check the level depending on temp of oil.

    Damn... thought you needed transvestite help.
    But seriously my Nissan frontier did the same thing after changing fluids and I never figured it out... changed fluid again, more carefully (by the dealer :)) and it seemed better.

    i used to work at aamco and this never quite got me, no leaks and its warm when i check it...idk it could very well be the u joints, they have 245k miles on the lol

    A bad u-joint will not cause the transmission to overheat or any check light. However, a loud clunk is likely a u-joint noise. Good advice to check the joints.

    I assume its an auto as manuals generally don't have overheating issues. What were you doing when it overheated, cruising at 55 on the highway or off-road, going slowly, in 4-lo perhaps? Is the heat exchanger clogged, possibly not getting air cooling through it? Radiator caked with mud?

    okay got the p1782 code again, this time the truck had been idoling for about 2 hrs in 4hi and it came on right when i got on the road 35 speed limit, no mud involved

    found p1782 code transfer case actuator is jammed internally (P1782), but i was in 2hi when it happened
