Arnt you running the Hayden though ? They run a 3/8 barb while some of the Tru-Cool run a 11/32

    It’s a 3/8” barb but the hose is 11/32 I believe.

The Hayden and derale work great

I’m using a wix filter. My tranny runs WAY cooler now

Just thought of something this may be totally crazy but if the tru-cool opens expansion chambers therefore opening more volume it will be lowering my fluid level compared to running at normal temp. How much of a fluid level swing would happen I don’t know I guess it would all depend on the model. I would feel much better knowing I’m running a constant level of fluid and the same volume so to speak at all times hot or cold.

I don’t think the volume of the cooler is that much. It may also just trap other fluid in these chambers, so your level never changes.

It doesnt work that way .
Get your transmission nice and hot with the new cooler installed and then check your fluid level and top it off using the check fluid procedure . Once the fluid circulates through the cooler once , your fluid level will remain at the proper level .
Transmission fluid remains in the un-used portion of the cooler when not in use , fluid doesnt drain down

Gotcha I wasn’t totally sure just a thought. I guess I’ll go ahead and ask in it here instead of starting a new thread. The scangauge 2 will not read the transmission temp on my 99 a340e correct due to it not having a temp sensor? I know it can read it in the 01-04 Tacoma’s

I beleive you are correct that the Scan guage will not read temps on your rig .
There actually is a temp sensor in the pan , but unfortunately it doesnt communicate with the obd2 portion of the ecm .
There is a post about it somewhere on T.W.
We need one of those computer engineers to figure out how to make it work as I dont think it would take much

It should be able to because I know that 99 and newer 4runners offer trans temp info via the OBDII port. 96-98 4runners just have an idiot light that will light up if your trans temp reaches 300 degrees letting you know to stop and go no further because your fluid is toast. I just installed an aftermarket trans temp gauge in my 98 4runner. Video coming soon.

I tried on my 99 with the A340E and it would not work. I used the custom codes posted in various threads and it would still not return any data. Remember 4runners are about 2 years ahead of tacomas as far as features/technology goes.

I agree I’m pretty sure the scangauge won’t read it on my truck. I’ve been doing some searching and have come across some of your post. It looks like you went with the glow shift tranny temp gauge. Where did you hook the actual sensor up to ? Is there a spot in Are tranny’s for it ?

I would recommend not getting a glow shift gauge. They work fine, but if you spend a little more you can have something much better. Speedhut lets you customize the whole gauge to your liking

I ended up drilling and tapping a hole into the stock output line elbow right at the transmission. I wanted to get as close to the transmission as possible on the output line. The easier way to do it is to just put the sensor on the rubber hose before it goes to the stock cooler.

I originally wanted to replace the whole elbow with threaded fittings. I talk about it here and here. Ultimately I could never keep it from leaking with that setup, so I decided to drill the stock elbow: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tiffany-the-taco.374490/page-10#post-16823767

Gotcha I’m gonna look into the speedhut then. I think I’m gonna try and put the sensor in one of the extra ports I will have on the filter using a npt adapter.
