you can probably lurk on any automotive forum and find 14 instances where people were stranded on the side of the road due to a failed part in a newer vehicle. Just because it's never happened to you personally doesn't mean it can't happen in the car / truck / SUV you drive.

No failures in the LC or 4 Runner for you.....

That doesn't mean other owners in the thousands of FJs , 4 Runners or LCs sold didn't suffer failures and were stranded who did or did not report it on any sort of web forum.

Like I said, you can speculate til the cows come home on how reliable / unreliable things are by playing with the percentages.

Picked up the blue super truck this morning. Service advisor gave me a report saying that Toyota had "GIVEN" me a new Cat converter as a goodwill jester and to not drive the vehicle in anything but drive unless using the crawl feature. I told them how disappointed I was in a truck maybe not so super. After driving all over OKC on errands I started home. I estimate it had been 80 miles since leaving the dealership when it farted and fell at a stop sign. Called dealership. After 4 restarts finally made the 40 miles on home. The last 25 miles driven at 50 mph and that must have helped. Parked in driveway put in gear held brake so didn't move revved it to 1500 rpm. After 30 seconds I duplicated the failure. Hot tranny warning and all. Of course I haven't read the repair manual. They come get again Monday

Told you. At least you didn't have to take a shit.

Put the crankshaft position sensor theory out there and see what they say.

Gave that to the shop frmn and he said that wasn't it. Got my ass chewed out for talking to him instead going thru service guy. I'll b the first to say don't no much about it but didn't just fall off the turnip wagon either. It doesn't go far enough long enough fast enough. Analyze that!

I'd be on my way to another dealership, after I told them to get bent.

Seems like the dealer looked down the wrong hole and replaced the catalytic converter before the transmission crapped out again.

Curious if the transmission fault is the cause or errant code being thrown. Still thinking CPS because he's not complaining of errant shifting, just stalling.

    thanks FooBird.

What a bitch. I understand this is a first run model but shiat! I hope the OP gets this sorted. Dealing with dealerships is one of top 10 reasons I buy used and far from those asshats.

I can only imagine cutting my vacation short with family to deal with a brand new truck issue then getting bent over by a sub-par dealership. I'd be inventing cuss words and spending the night in a "tax-payer hotel."

OP, I admire your restraint and do hope you get this resolved.

I'm not in a hurry for this truck. I got bout a month before more adventures. I hope they look at the CPS as I mentioned it to them. I understand they must justify every move they can so Toyota will pay them. I think maybe someone besides me needs to look at the big picture. Something shuts the fuel off and blames the tranny but tranny seems ok. Shifts and pulls good. I believe in Toyota or I wouldn't have bought this thing. I'm not ready to thro them under the bus yet. There is a slot for me to deposit my 2 cents when it's time.

It's not the CPS, I don't think that wouldn't display a transmission hot warning. Was there any diagnostic trouble codes? immhaving trouble following the OP on his explaination of what's going on. Any updates?

My CPS problem most definitely displayed a transmission hot AND check engine warnings. His symptoms are exactly what mine were.

The dealer could not diagnose/resolve the problem without opening a case with Toyota. Post CPS replacement 2 weeks now and all is fine.
