Tranny shift question

I have a '96 Taco 4 cyl. auto. I noticed when driving around town it won't shift into 3rd gear until about 40 mph. Also won't shift into O/D until about 55 mph. If I shift it manually, it goes into 3rd around 30 mph. What would cause it to have extended shift point? I've read about the shift solenoid, but not sure if that's it or not. Thanks.

 

Any check engine lights ?

The 2.4L 5 lug has an A43D. The A43D is not electronically controlled. It's controlled by a governor on the output shaft and the trans throttle cable AKA "kickdown cable". You probably need to adjust your Trans throttle cable to achieve the shift points of your liking. The only solenoid on the A43D is the OD lockout solenoid.
