So I realize there's a Rev 1 thread but I'm looking for specific feedback from those who had both TSBs performed? I had the original tranny TSB and I'm just wondering if there's any point in getting Rev 1.
I've gotten used to the tranny for the most part. Living in the mountains I'm just resigned to the fact that I've got to drive in S mode while climbing inclines. I'd rather cruise up a hill at 4000+ RPMs in 3rd, than constantly shifting 3-4-5-4-3....

I have found cruise control works pretty well at limiting gear hunting while climbing, but on winding mountain roads cruise isn't always a good idea.

Anyway, just wondering if Rev1 reduces the gear hunting while climbing. Tranny doesn't bother me in town or on flat highway cruising. However it turns into a piece of shit while driving uphill in the mountains.

I also think the "learning" fucks it up. If I'm in the mountains for a week it'll start driving a little better and stop upshifting on climbs. Then after driving in the city and heading into the mountains, it drives like shit again.

It's incredibly frustrating and seems beyond easy to fix. Why can't they get it right!? Just program this Fucking thing to not upshif on climbs.. keep it in the 3000+ RPM power band.

I've had both with similar results. Although on the 2nd one I haven't noticed the 2nd to 3rd gear shift flare in the mornings upon first driving.

They both start out really well when the ECU is initially cleared then it seems after about 3000 miles it's back to somewhat crappy performance. I do feel it is ever so slightly better on the 2nd version but still a far cry from where it should be. It still has a pretty bad kickdown delay. I don't notice as much of the random downshifting when coasting through the neighborhood so it does seem to hold gears at surface street speeds a tad longer.

I had both updates and I was hesitate to do the second one. As little as the first update helped the second one was much better. Prior to the second update my combined street mileage was 15/16 and highway mileage was 19 at best for a long highway drive. Right after update my mileage increased to 17/18 street combined to as high as 22 on a very long stretch of highway. It is not a great change in drive ability but a subtle one. Some part throttle slowdown in slight inclines improved a little but there is still the cold tranny clunk when coming up on stop signs. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't hesitate to install the second update. When I bought the truck my tranny was a quart low it had to be manually inspected and was done long before the first update on the transmission was done. I am still frustrated with this transmission but I don't hate it like I use to. Toyota can and should do better than this. I use to think highly about Toyota from past ownership but now they are reduced to an also ran manufacturer. They have allot of ground to plow before I will ever have faith with them again. I am in for the long haul with this Tacoma so they have to prove to me they are willing to fix the issues I have with this truck or they go on the same list I have for other brands.
