I was planning on getting my Trans fluid changed to Amsoil synth and then going ahead and doing my Differential fluids too but wasn't sure what diff fluids I should run and what weight. I will be living in the Smoky's in Western Carolina so will be doing a lot of up hill down hill mountain driving. I am going to have my Trans done by my shop because its cheaper than me just buying the oil and then hopefully doing my diffs my self. Could you point me to a good write up for front AND rear diff fluid changes? Thanks for all the help

There is a how to on here somewhere. Let me try and find it.
As far as oil weight goes your owners manual will tell you what to use. Also amsoil is a great way to go! I use it to!

All diffs, t cases and manual trans you can use 75w90 synthetic unless you have a limited slip rear diff 2005-2008. Then use conventional gear oil with limited slip additive and change it every 30,000 miles. 4 speed autos use Type IV atf and 5 speed autos use WS atf.

For Amsoil products, here's their listing of products for 2005 Tacomas.

Thanks a bunch for getting back with me. How do I know if I have a limited slip and how about the 4/5 speed auto. I know I can feel the gears to check if its a 4/5 speed but I would rather be precise. thanks again

You have a 4.0 v6 which means you have the 5 spd auto. The 4 spd auto is only used on 2.7 4 cyls. If you have a TRD Sport (2005-2008) you will have LSD. If you have a TRD Off Road you will have an electric locker that does not require special fluid. If you have an SR5, there was an option of LSD and there should be a sticker on the rear diff saying so.
