My battery in my 2017 SR5 with tow package died last week; after the battery died, as well as after putting a new battery in, the shift points seem less refined. The midrange upshifts seem to hold a given gear too long before moving to the next, taller gear.

The techs didn’t seem to have convincing responses as to why this would be. Does the computer need to relearn your driving behavior after a battery failure? (I’m not someone who ever had real issues with the transmission, either.)

Yes, the computer will relearn for a few hundred miles or so. Mine usually takes about 300 miles, then it's back to it's old self.

Yep, gotta relearn operational characteristics. Itll straighten itself out, eventually.

Y'all should invest in one of these. These keeps the memory in the ECU intact while you disconnect the battery. The cig. lighter will need for you to switch to acc. to turn on the cig.lighter. The other if you have a spare battery handy. These are JUST to keep your memory. The OBD just gets signal from spare battery.
The 9v is probably the SAFEST bet.
You REALLY do not want to cross the pos/neg on the OBD.

Trash D mode and treat it like a manual without a clutch. Way more connected driving and gas mileage doesn’t suffer either.
