    howdy all. my TACO is showing 72000 and Obviously is not driven a lot. today I was at an oil change place, for a different car, and I asked about trans fluid change on my Tacoma... MANY DIFFERENT OPINIONS some say never, some say every 30K, others say every 75K and usw ONLT toyota fluid????? Also change the filter? Is this something a home mechanic shouls attempt???? Thanks

    Welcome to TW! Plenty of opinions on this. It's a sealed system though so that makes it a little more involved. There is a great writeup here on TW for doing it though.

    It’s not lifetime fluid.
    Not even. A 100k fluid. Even Toyota changed this on the later years.

    If you do a full system fluid change you should drop the pan, clean the magnets, and change the filter. I would not use WS to refill. Plenty of guys that do this for a living will say it not “the best”. @gearcruncher

    If you do a drain and fill. Use what’s in it now. Toyota uses WS. Drain and fill doesn’t get all the fluid out. And mixing fluids isn’t advised.


    FWIW, I still use WS.
