Have an 09 trd sport with 102k. Never had any trans work, dealer recommends a full trans flush. Is that a good idea or should I just drain and fill a few times to replace all trans fluid?

    Thanks

Why does the dealer kinda refuse a drain and fill? But a full flush is fine. They tell me they can't b/c it's a sealed unit? Have a 09 trd sport. Has anyone had a drain and fill rather than the FULL flush?

There is a drain port and a fill port on the transmission case.

It is also possible to drop the transmission pan, clean out any coagulated goop on the bottom of the pan, and replace the filter.

Both of these actions will only drain out about half the fluid in the transmission at any given time. The other half in the torque converter won't drain out by gravity. Only way to replace all the fluid in the transmission is by a flush. The dealer is probably pushing for a flush for this reason, and to improve their bottom line (flush by machine is relatively quick and profitable for them).

I just had min flushed at the dealer for 165$. 2005 with 125k. It drives smoother shifts are cleaner. Dealer said the old oil was in good shape.

I'm kinda a maintenance freck.....I have and will continue to change trans fluid on 35-40k regardless of what the motor company states.....its way to easy to do a full flush (at home) and keep the fluid clean and the trans running well. there is a post on here somewhere that shows how to do a full flush yourself .....just get about 14q. fluid and search out that post. its easy if you have any basic knowledge.....
