    • 2018 TRD pro
    • Purchased new
    • Both issues since new
    • First issue: hunting transmission in all gears (worse at top 2), at cruise speeds and going up hill. Worse with cruise control.
    • Second issue: intermittent rough idle to the point where it is shaking vehicle (see video).
Is anyone else having the same problems?
Edit: The recoding shows the incline graphics shifting with the rough idle. This movement to the left and forward only happens when this is happening.

First issue is just engine not having enough power to keep speed in o/d gears so transmission downshifts.

Issue 1. Known issue sorry that's just the fuel efficient trans shifting unfortunately

Issue 2. Maybe the truck sat for a while and injectors got gummed up. Run a bottle of seafoam at your next fuel up. Drive the fuck out of it. I mean it. Have fun and let it do its job

A search will find about a bizillion threads on the transmission, starting in 2016. And about 3-4 potential remedies, depending on how you use your truck and what you might be willing to spend out of pocket.

You'll also find lots of folks that say theirs is hunky-dory. Don't hear nearly as much fussing about this from '19 / '20 owners, so we suspect the programming has significantly improved. 'Cause it's the same transmission.

The rough idle is a different deal though. Can you make it replicate at will, IE create conditions that cause the problem? If the dealer can't experience it or see codes related to it, they wouldn't know how to proceed for a repair.

Dealer is right in this case.

The rough idle may just be the cleaning cycle. It makes the engine sound very different than normal idle. Could also be bad gas. In either case, I don't think there is anything wrong with the engine. How many miles on the truck?

edit: just saw your video. Do your incline graphics always do that? Or just when you captured that video.

It had less than 2k at the time and had been driven pretty consistently. It has been doing it since as well. Might try anyway, you never know, probably won’t hurt.

For the fixes, I am seeing those. I did see the high altitude TSB one a while back and asked dealer to do it. But, they said they couldn’t download outside of high altitude location.

I can’t reliably replicate the rough idle, it just happens. But always causes that left dip and forward dip on incline graphics.

Yes, should have pointed that out. I made the video because it was so rough that I wondered if it was actually moving and turned that on, and it was shifting the incline graphics left and down. It consistently does that when it has this issue and they are perfectly flat when the rough idle isn’t happening. 11k miles now, 1324 when that recording was taken, but still happens.
