I have a 97 Tacoma 4x4 w/ 180k.Recently started having issues w/ tranny. It will not shift past 3rd gear.I push in the O/D button and nothing happens. The indicator comes on the dash but it will not shift into higher gear.It isn't slipping between gears or at take off.It seems to be something electronic or maybe a solenoid in the trans.Any suggestions?????IMG_0065 (1).jpg

What does your fluid look like and when was that last time it was renewed? It could very well be a shift solenoid but if the fluid is black and burnt smelling, I'd start with a fluid flush. I usually wouldn't recommend a full flush if somebody's fluid looks really bad, but since your trans is already having major issues, you really have nothing to lose.

If you're going to drop the pan to renew shift solenoids, this video will help you out:
