I just did a drain and refill on my 2011 2.7L Auto Trans. Everybody on the forum seems to put in 3.2-3.8qts. But after 4qts I'm still showing about half way between the cold and hot ranges. I checked it after about a 20mi drive home from work this morning with outside temp at 44 degrees F. (On level ground idling in Park) Fluid temp when I got home was just barely warm to the touch. Is this normal for the A343E? I don't recall ever having an auto that wasn't fully warm after a 20mi drive. The drive from work also includes about 8mi of interstate @ 70-73 mph.

Well I guess no one has ever payed attention to their trans temps. After some research I did find that the A343E has a fluid temp sensor. And from what I can tell it doesn't have a thermostat like the tundra. So I guess at low ambient temperatures She takes a long time to warm up. Although the service manual for the trans doesn't really address how long it takes. It just states that normal operating temp is 122-176 degrees. So I guess it being warm to the touch it's probably pretty close to operating temp.

Just to close this thread out. My trans refill ended up needing 4.5-4.6 qts to bring it to half way between the "HOT" markings on the dipstick. While I was doing the final check today I noticed that oddly enough the fluid that gets on the dipstick is aprox body temp or barely warm but if you put your hand on the pan it is hot. Not so hot that you can't touch it but easily at what Toyota would term operating temp. So I did the final top off and called it good. Weird wild stuff.
