    Backstory:
I have a 2018 calvalry blue trd pro and at 6k miles I hit a deer that did cosmetic damage to the front grill, bumper, headlights, trans cooler, and AC condenser. Insurance fixed it but after driving for 1k miles, I ran into a problem. On a hour drive down the highway the truck started surging in drive. I figured it was an issue but not a fluid issue since it’s new. It gradually got worse over 15 miles to get off the high way.
Upon stopping at a gas station to call for a tow I noticed I was leaking a lot of trans fluid. After looking around It looks like the lines came off the trans cooler they replaced after hitting the deer.

    Question:
So my question is during the last 15 miles of pissing out fluid, could this have runned my transmission? Truck has 7600 miles on it.

Truck is about to be towed to the auto body place that did the work after the deer accident. Sounds like I might get a rental vehicle, I’m just worried about the permanent damage.

    A. I don’t think it’s ruined per say, but there could be damage internally that needs to be repaired.
    B. Don’t worry about it and you shouldn’t be paying the repair bill if it did Grenade the transmission.

Damage is certainly possible. You could have it torn apart and checked ($$) or let it be refilled and drive it, checking for any issues previously not there. Sounds like a cruddy situation, hate that happened to you.

Leave the lines off and run it till it blows then go after who did that repair. How bad was it like a puddle of fluid or just a few drips, if the line blew off and you went another 15 miles I'd be concerned with damage.

sounds like a nightmare in the making. who is going to add the fluid back into the tranny, the body shop? this requires a dealer tec to re fill properly than the dealer get's involved and finds out what happened and good luck with any warranty work on the tranny.

Check with your insurance company, describe events and inquire as to remedy suggested by them... depending on relationship between insurance company and repair facility, you may have an extended warranty period on the repairs as well. At a minimum, document everything meticulously and have repair facility acknowledge their culpability. Problem will be, “when will it fail”... not “if”, as internal heat and wear has been increased and potential failure accelerated.

Heat damage could be possible. Have the dealer hook it up to the computer and read trans temperature log before doing anything else.

Yeah it’s being towed to the body shop that did the work after hitting the deer right now. Should know more here soon.

Talk to your insurance company, some warrant repairs for life of ownership if the repair is performed at one of their affiliate shops. Make sure that what happened is written.

    Best of luck
    Cheers!

Yeah the auto collision place I went to has a lifetime warranty through my insurance company. They are going to have Toyota do a full diagnostics on the transmission along with go over everything again. I have. 2018 4Runner to drive till it’s fixed.

I drove a car once where the pressure switch blew out and pissed out a lot of trans fluid. The switch was replaced under warranty and the trans died weeks later. Then the trans was replaced under warranty. Got love CryCo products

Oh he'll yes running tranny dry can damage it. I had a jeep hose blow on me and had issues since that day.

Nobody can just look (diagnostics) at a tranny and guarantee it's good without a teardown. Do they check pump seals etc ? Tranny pump always runs in neutral or gear whether moving or not.

Lifetime of tranny imo has been reduced. By what amount time will tell.

The insurance company can still screw you as they did me. When someone stole my truck and wrecked it and blew the transmission, the insurance company said it was already leaking. A-Holes. Cost me a lot to get it fixed.

True the engines were good, the electrical harnesses had little gremlins in them though.

Only electrical issues had were old/bad grounds and wire chafing after many years.

That's good, the other thing they say about those old jeeps is that the problems that appeared would fix themselves! Lol
