    Hi,
My truck was doing just fine then decided to randomly start shifting weird. When I ran the code it says it’s a p0717. I tried filling it and no difference in shifting just spraying out the breather. It’s not overfilled and the trans temp light isn’t coming on so I’m not sure why. I then replaced it the sensor and it’s still throwing the code. I’m hoping it’s not the tcm but any other ideas?

P0717 is for the input speed sensor, it sets when there is no signal or an erratic signal from the Turbine Input Speed Sensor on the transmission.

I would suspect an open or shorted wire between the sensor and ECM.

What year and engine is your truck?

It is an 06 with the 4.0. When I replaced the sensor the wiring looked fine.

It’s spraying out of the breather?

I’m not exactly sure why it’s now deciding to after I added fluid. It’s hard to over fill a transmission that uses a fill plug.

Did you examine the whole harness though, you have to remember the wiring goes all the way from the sensor, over the transmission, behind the engine, and around through the firewall to the ECM behind the glovebox.

You need an oscilloscope to check the signal but you can ohm check the wires and do a visual inspection of the harness.

If you filled it to the bottom of the fill plug it's way overfilled, the check plug is on the bottom of the pan. Engine must be running in park, trans temp 97-115F to check.
