why does trans keep down shifting at 75 mph on slight incline,no load no tow

because it needs more torque so it shifts to a lower gear.

The answer to your actual question is high gearing and lousy programing. It's built to hit EPA MPG targets, not to placate owners.

The problem can be solved, but it will be on your dime. And while some folks will do it immediately, some will wait till warranty is expired, just in case something else goes wrong and a dealer may try to blame it on their modifications.

Only you can decide.

Some are baffled, blame Toyota, but I feel like the big GOV is who should get the finger pointing. MFG's have to adhere to very strict guidelines and pay penalties, in some fashion or the other.

 

I mean it’s a 4 cyl with 160 hp trying to move a brick at 75. Transmission is not at fault here.

Because you spent $$$ on a vehicle without doing single bit of research. It's the one of the top, if not THE top complaint you will see about the 3rd gen Tacomas.

 

Think the 3rd gen 4 banger has one of the worst power to weight ratios of any car ever..... Its just on the struggle bus at 75mph.

 

I think Yaris has better power to weight ratio than a 3rd gen 4cyl taco.
