    I bought a 1995 Tacoma SR5 w/ non-working 4wd.
Yesterday I pulled the actuator from the transfer case for inspection.
I found that the small plate that covers the gear for the selector shaft was forced into a dome shape and the gear came off the spline.
I opened all the covers and tested the motor and everything looks to be ok.
There is a large cog that the motor spins and the limit switch reads off this cog.
Does anyone know the proper alignment of this cog?
    Would pictures be more helpful?

Man, I've got a manual t-case and don't know a thing about push button 4wd. That being said, I bet pictures would help the other guys who would know more...

Was a PreRunner, now it isn't
is the truck in 2wd? I believe that it rotates to the right when engaging 4wd until it hits the limit ground.

Thanks to those who replied to this post. I decided to tackle this issue again and began troubleshooting all components. What I found is that the 4wd computer is missing! I also found a broken ground wire to the transfer case actuator.
So the 4wd computer, part # 89533-35050 is NLA and I have ordered used ones twice and have received the wrong part both times. Any of you out there who might have one laying around? I will also post in the parts wanted section.
This part was used for 95-97 4wd Tacomas.
    thanks!

I may need to be corrected on this. But I have never seen a 1995-1997 truck with an actuated transfer case transfer case. . .I was pretty sure they where all manual sticks

Yes, my 1995 Tacoma has a push button on the 2-4 selector.
I finally found the right computer today, so I will delete my wanted post. I hope this part solves my issue......
