I recently had some issues with what I initially believed to be my transfer case actuator. I bought a replacement off of parts geek which was confirmed to be the same part as what the dealership sells by a parts person. The problem being that the replacement when installed or just plugged in because it's a pain to switch back and forth, throws abs and traction control codes along with 2 wheel to 4 wheel change failed where as the old one would only show the change failed when attempting to change over. I currently have the old actuator in it and the change failed light isn't showing and my next step was to change the actuator on the front diff. I'm just curious about the cause of that should I need to change the transferase actuator too.

No idea if this is your issue, but I believe it’s the T case actuator that has to be “timed” properly to allow it to work. The truck computers have to get the proper position indication from the actuator for everything to work well.

There are threads here that cover it in precise detail. I believe one of the members in that is @BigWhiteTRD

Might try searching for that screen name, good luck.

I heard timing it is a PITA. Best to watch a video or two on YouTube.

I did watch a YouTube video of someone taking their t case actuator off and re installing it. they explained how to set the gears back properly which was actually only one of the 3 gears that needed to be set specifically. I'll link it here. however if there's a different type of "timing" you're referring to then please let me know. https://youtu.be/GCY2BCdlU4I?si=wiW0Nm0AikRd8Tz5 this is the video I initially watched to take the old one off and put the new one on.

The front actuator (ADD), you have to make sure the replacement actuator isn't too far in either direction (engaged or disengaged), but any mid position is fine.

The transfer case actuator has to be carefully timed, as linked in this thread.
